Money help: I got involved in a company for college age kids, running my own business, and working outdoors for the summer. - Help.com

I got involved in a company for college age kids, running my own business, and working outdoors for the summer.

I realize now that I’m in over my head, and because I wasn’t able to hit lofty goals I now find myself in even more debt than when I started, and the sad thing is that I have been working for over 7 months at it. I’m only 21 and have very little as it is and I see this eventually getting messy and owing a lot of money, what should I do?

dcook:
it seems to me like you’ve answered your question. if this is definitely going to get messy, then you have to cut your losses and get out of the business. one of the worst mistakes business owners make is digging a hole for themselves and then digging it deeper because they hate to accept their losses.

i know you don’t have much and this is hard. but 21 is so young! if you’ve got an entrepreneurial spirit, you can recover and try ten more times. at some point, you’ll succeed :)

it does sound like you have to get out of this mess and find a job that will help you get on even financial footing. do look for a job in the area that interests you, so you can get experience you need to do better on your next shot. another alternative is to pile on a little more debt and go to school again. the school will probably pay for itself if it gives you skills and connections that you need.

good luck!
