defiantly… anytime I start to feel excessively hot or something, i try to relax myself and start to generate a feeling of tranquility and coolness, and i feel better whether or not my temperature is actually decreasing.

I reckon your temp would decrease, I see an experiment where they hooked athletes up to a monitoring unit and got them to imagine running a race, all of there body parts responded as if they were actually running, muscles heart etc etc

yes there is a mind-body connection. There is a hierarchy.
Mind first, and spirit or astral or emotional, then the physical.
It always flows first from the mind and then down into the physical.
Your mind as the capability of doing anything. We just have not trained our minds
to be able to do anything.

A placebo does not work by fooling ourselves.
It works because the mine has the power to cure us.
We eat the placebo because we think we have to eat something to cure us.
But it’s really our mind which cures us.
The placebo effect proves this.

I think the mind has the capability to help cure things in the body that may have their roots in the mind and can also help with the perception of various manifestations, like pain, temperature, external reactions to bodily functions. Not sure the mind can cure the big stuff like Cancer, heart disease etc…

Its said that DISEASE is a result of not being AT EASE therfore its really DIS-EASE. This obviously can only be created in the mind there fore an ill mind will result in an ill body. Depak Chopra suggested that an old indian aryveda statement was:

If you want to know the state of the mind in the past look at the body now, if you want to know the state of the body in the future look at the mind now.

This is why i feel its imperative to stay in harmony, easier said than done sometimes though, i dont want to pretend this stuff is easy, it really takes time and is the fruit of a MUST. If you want to change the fruits you must 1st change the roots.

There is a theory that when people talk about the mind, they are making what’s called a category mistake, it’s not universal but it does help me when I’m trying to think about it. Basically if you imagine a university, a university is made up of it’s colleges, the city it’s in, libraries, museums and other such buildings, however you couldn’t really point at any one of those buildings and say, “that is the university”. But at the same time, the university isn’t an intangible concept, because it IS all of those things.

In the same way, it can be said that the mind is thoughts, wants, the brain etc. You can’t point at any single thing and say, “That’s the mind” because it’s all of them.

When you think about things like that, I find it a lot easier to understand the connection between ‘mind’ and ‘body’, and how they interact and effect eachother.

On a less philasophical level, thoughts are electrical, which produce chemical reactions (eg fear produces adrenaline, hapiness produces seretonin etc), if you think you are feeling better, then perhaps seretonin or other such dopamine type chemicals are released which contribute to your feeling of well being, conversely if you think you are going to die these chemicals will be produced less, the effect being that you feel worse, and any physical or chemical processes that rely on these chemicals will begin to slow down or stop, making you ill.

Just my thoughts on it anyway.

Brilliant i like that , good point. I do believe though like you said, the mind being the ,university’ extends way outside the body

There are so many weird paradoxes around the mind, essentially what they always come down to is there is no way to actually prove anything has conciousness or intelligence, it’s all based entirely on flawed evidence and trust. Which to me seems to imply that if you can’t even prove something exists, why do we impose such strict rules on what it can or can’t do?

So right that is why i feel it is important to remain open minded on all subjects towards all people. Im agnostic, i feel whats the point in believing one theory in particulay when this completely limits your scope and immagination

I agree to a certain extent, personally I’m an athiest, just because I think that the whole concept of a God can be so easily and comprehensively disproved on a theoretical level, without even geting into the flawed politics of churches, control organisations in general and world history. But that’s probably another thread :P

Yeh people can get real touchy on this especially on this forum, I also think its really a matter of seeing what you believe and not believing what you see as well. Unfortunately most have lost there imagination and creativity and just go with the flow and only trust what they see or are told that exists.

It genuinely scares me when people get sorta touchy and aggressive when their beliefs are challenged, I don’t like the idea that it is possible to believe in something to the exclusion of logic or reason, and be willing to defend it (possibly even violently) without being willing to discuss it properly.

I agree completely, although if I was to be honest, I sometimes get jealous of people who can have such blind faith, or not question things. I suppose it relates to my other post, sometimes ignorance is bliss. But man that sounds arrogant :P didn’t mean it to.

not weird at all, i find it really drains my energy, im trying to train myself to analize less but i find it really interesting and intriguing so im finding that hard at the moment, i think thats why i ask alot of questions on what people believe and what they think and feel. I do yoga and meditate, i find that really benificial, although i do find that i have changed heaps over the last 5 years and unfortunately the people around yu tend to notice the changes negatively, people dont tend to like change, my wife doesnt like me doing yoga and finds the phycology stuff weird especially if i talk about us being responsible for our own lives and creating our own experience etc, anyway gives you some idea what im about

yeah I know exactly what you mean. I did meditation for a while but I just fell out of the habit, but it did help. I would really like to get back into it at some point.

I made the mistake of reading notes from the underground last week, which has really confused me :P

So, if you don’t mind my asking (you don’t have to answer this at all), would you consider yourself a happy person on the whole?
