Is it still possible to do freelance writing/journalism?

I know that in the olden days (when things were in black and white and men wore hats) that you could write an article or a story and submit it to a paper or whatever, and if they printed it you’d get a nice shiny penny. Can you still do that or has the evil world of blogging rendered it pointless?

No, you can still do that. Submitt your stories to different newspapers or magazines and they will let you know whether is worth publishing, if they don’t plagiarize it first from you and pass it off as their ideas or thoughts.

You should start your own blob/website and advertise it and let people read your original thoughts and then newspapers or magazines will actually have to give you credit for your original thoughts.

So you mean I should start a blog website, and submit the blog content to papers and stuff, so if they try to plagiarize it I can just use the blog stuff as proof of originality?

then again: most papers will not print something that has *already* been published :S

Yeah, but that would be the whole point of the blog website to protect the original ideas. And, maybe if the blog website gets big enough, no newspapers or magazines will be needed and he can just lend the articles out for publishing. Newspapers still do that and magazines too.

that’s a good point also. This is complicated. What sorts of things would papers be likely to publish too? And what do you mean lend the articles out?

And the other thing was; what are the legalities about using a pen name? Just because I think there’s some safety in annonymity :P

When newspapers and magazines find your articles relevant to a story they might be doing, they ask to use your articles. Sometimes there is a huge article, let’s say on toe nail fungus and its cures, if you wrote something related to that they may use your article as a header or ender of their article. As some “additional information.”

So do they have people to trawl the internet just for articles they can use?

If you are going to write about controversial subjects and you expect some repprecatiouns, then be anonymous. But, if you want to be famous, then use a name you want to be known as. That’s really up to you!

Just curious. But, what is exactly that you like to write about the most? Do you have a specialty subject?

Not really to be honest, just musings on life really. I’ve not actually written anything in a while, and I’d love to get back into it. I’ve missed it :P

There’s no time like the present. Your mind and brain never sleep when ideas start coming to you! Always have your laptop next to you so the ideas don’t escape you. I have jumped out of the shower to write my ideas. I get up at 3 in the morning sometimes if I feel an idea coming to me. Never let your ideas leave your head without writing them down. I wish you a lot of success.

I think there’s a bunch of legalities that have to addressed here. You do need to talk to someone who knows about copyright laws and who may be very well informed on the new laws applying the the internet and computer publishing.

Well, I’ve taken the advice and I’m now the proud owner of a (probably unduly pretentious) blog spot holder thing.

You can still do this. I advise protecting your work though. Here is the copyright link for you to do so if you wish http://www.wcauk.com/?gclid=CI_NzKrCr…

Good luck either way.
