What kind of file is it? If it’s already compressed, compressing it with another program probably isn’t going to do much. I usually use winzip or winrar, but they aren’t freeware.

Not sure how to check.
I can see that it has DivX compression.
Not sure how much it was compressed though.

DivX can do pretty high compression. You might want to try winrar. I supposedly can get better compression than winzip or 7zip. You can download the trial version from the web site:

http://www.rarsoft.com/download.htm

It can handle .zip files, too. It’s what I use to uncompress stuff that I download.

Do you have the install file? More importantly, was it free when
you downloaded it? as I do not use trial software or steal programs.
Big fan of freeware myself.

File compression.
A friend of mine was having trouble downloading
a file from a site so I downloaded it for them
planning to compress it later seeing as they
don’t have the fastest connection. When using
7Zip the file seemed to remain the same. I
set it to a slower setting this time hopping
that gives me a better compression but I wanted
to know if anyone had any freeware file compressors
they knew of that work well. The file is 175mb or
so. If I can even get it down to 100mb that would
be that much less they have to transfer from me.
I hope this slower setting on 7Zip will work but
it still would be nice to have a few other
programs for this.
