**I have computer issues PLEASE HELP**!

!!!!!!!

I just got a brand new laptop. It’s a Gateway M1625. 2 GB Ram, 250 GB Hardrive. Vista. Pretty good, and REALLY cheap.

My old laptop was Windows 98. Really old. Compaq..don’t know what model. Don’t know the memory. Long story short, it sucks.

Also, I am a writer. I love to type my stories, because the arthritis in my wrists limit me from writing. So I type EVERYTHING. The only way I can think of transfering my stories from my old laptop to my new, is sending the files to myself in an attatchment to my email. But now my old laptop has completely crashed, and it won’t go on!

It’s kind of stuck in between. It will turn on, (the light will turn on saying that it’s on) and will make noises hinting that it’s working, but the screen will just stay black.

We’re going to try connecting the laptop to the main computer…we think something may be wrong with the moniter part of the laptop. We’ll see if that works. But if it doesn’t, what should I do!!? I had like .. 5 of my stories on there. I can’t give those up.

So any computer experts out there? PLEASE, I need help!!! PLEASE !! I just need to transfer my files, then I’m totally done with my old laptop.

Help is REALLY GREATLY APPRECIATED !!! :D

If your hard drive is fine on the laptop then your stories are safe. Worst case you have to take out the hard drive and plug it into a new laptop or something like that. I don’t know enough to be exact on your actions to take.

Okay, thanks anyway. Your response atleast releives pressure. (:

Although if I take out the hardrive and place it in my laptop, would I be able to save it in the hardrive I have it in now ?? That just confuses me. D:

if your stories are really important you have to seek professional help on disk recovery. Some charge hundreds of dollar to recover data from a hard disk.

Eww. Hundreds .. of .. dollars. Ugh. D:
Well, I’ll try connecting it to my main computer. If that doesn’t work, maybe I can take out the hard drive. I have flash drives, so if I place the old hardrive in my new computer, save my work on the flash drives, then put my new hardrive back in, and put the flash drive in there again, I’ll have my stories !! That sounds complicated though. =\

VGA ?

Is that the thing to connect another moniter on it?

If so, then yes.

Well if I could connect it to another computer, why don’t I just email it to myself then? Lol.

It would be a lot easier then going out to Best Buy and buying another cord… =\

Though I don’t even know if something is wrong with the moniter of the laptop, or the whole laptop in general.

-shrugs- 10 mb is quite a lot for just documents. It’d take 2 emails at the most probably.

SkyDrive offers 5GB. If you have account on Live.com (Microsoft), go to “Home” and click the “SkyDrive” Link. You can upload your files there.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I should try hooking my laptop up to another moniter. Hopefully that will work, and then I’ll probably either do SkyDrive or do file transfer. (what cole_wrinkle suggested)

i would just take the hardrive out, put it in the new laptop, upload the files, return the old hardrive,
wait, i wouldnt upload them.
i would put them on a flash drive if you have one.
then put in the old drive and copy to it.

You can take out the HDD but it will not work in the new laptop because in the old pc it is connected as an IDE connection and in the new one its SATA. Take the laptop to your local pc store, not walmart and they will transfer the information from the old hdd to a new one that will work with your new pc. Hope this helps :-)

HDD is the hard drive. IDE, and SATA are connection types of the hard drive to the computer. You can type computer terms into Wikipedia for definitions and explanations. Google by it’s self works well too.
