What is this “lethargy bug” that is going round?
Seems everyone has it.
Apparently it is highly contagious also.

Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
I would say why, but that’d take too much effort.

Can you say Mono???
It really exists, where I am loads of boys at my kid’s school are getting sent home as they cant stop falling asleep - I thought XBox 360 might have been to blame but no apparently the poor little souls are ill and some of them do have glandular fever (mono)- Mas
its not mono because its basically major fatigue
not sore throat and that

wait only boys get it? what about girls? the worst affected person i know is a girl
but i think about half the people i know have it lol
mono can occur with and without the sore throat… tis the season…
No my kid goes to a boys school so I dont know about the girls. My boy had glandular fever last year - have never seen anything like it - he slept for a month - couldnt lift his head off the pillow not even to play XBox (that is when I knew it was serious) he lost weight, grew taller but still hasnt got his full fitness back. Also if you even catch a cold it can come back. This new thing seems different though - they can still walk around but are totally exhausted.

ah seen.
wait so you are a parent.
meaning you are older than me
and therefore have been around longer
have you never seen this thing before?
yes we had it all the time when I was at school but we were completely putting it on lol
yeah you see for us its real…we’re all going to bed a few hours early…some even as early as like 8 o clock…and then coming to school very tired…
Thing is I’ve spoken to a few Mums and they cant believe it, some of my sons friends are literally putting themselves to bed. I mean you could blame exams but I doubt it. Two boys have been for blood tests and get the results tomorrow that should shed some light on it. The school are taking it seriously and not making kids do PE if they cant face it. I’ll let you know tomorrow after 3pm what the results/treatment is for it as that is when they go to the doctor. - Mas

btw how old is your kid…coz like is he like infant school junior school, high school, college…
Hi mas1s, did you manage to find out what the virus was? For the past two/three weeks I have been feeling incredibly run down, with aching muscles - it sounds very similar to what you have been describing, although I’m 35 years old (not that that necessarily makes a difference). I was wondering if it could be glandular fever, although I don’t think my symptoms are serious enough for that.
If you manage to find out what was cause of the illness going around at your son’s school is, I’d be be interested to know.

i think it does make a difference because none of the teachers had it
Well in the case of my sons school - which is twinned with a girls school - it was indeed glandular fever - also known as the kissing disease. However there is an article the school sent to parents about this. Teachers actually have a very high immunity to most things because they have literally been exposed to everything x 10, they also get vaccinations etc,,,.
So I will dig out the article and post it here - it is short but explanatory - I had no idea that grown ups could catch it so Neil perhaps if you recognise anything in your symptoms you may want to get a quick check up. - Regards Mas
p.s. my son is 15
Thanks for your reply mas1s, maybe Glanular fever is what I’ve got then. Also I would be interested in the article you mention if you get the time to post it.
As you mentioned it’s also called the kissing disease, I’m not at all surprised that your son’s school is twined with a girl’s school!
I just noticed your reply to mine, ɐʇɐɯɹǝɟ.Suc. Hopefully you’re correct in that I don’t have glandular fever, seeing as the teachers didn’t catch it at masls’s son’s school. Maybe I should just get a check-up, but I’m always a bit embarrassed about seeing a doctor if I don’t have anything that feels too serious - maybe it’s just a male thing!
Hi Neil - this is the bones of it
hmmm well what i had wasnt glandular fever.
how did you get it from coxsackies to glandular fever lol
