I’m guessing here, but it probably means the boy had an unpleasant experience himself that day and took it out on you. It could be that he had heard someone say something positive about you and he wanted to take you down to his level, or it could be nothing to do with you at all. Most bullies have emotional problems, lack confidence to communicate with others in a normal way and are crying for attention any way they know how.

If he was just swearing at you, swear back at him for being so mean. Unless he’s actually tough, not just acting it, and strong.

Also commonly they just like the control they get.

I’m sorry you’re upset.

Some kids take a long time to learn what respect means. They think it’s ok to make fun, mess around with people’s emotions, be hurtful… it reflects their immaturity.

Very often people who bully have “learned” that behaviour from others around them. Maybe they didn’t benefit from good parenting.

What is most important to remember is that you are in control here. Keep reminding yourself that this person is behaving WRONGLY and AT ODDS with normality. It is THEIR behaviour and not yours.

Bullying is not tolerated in schools, nor indeed in society as a whole. If this continues or escalates and a simple “Leave me alone. I don’t know why you are behaving like this but it’s unacceptable” said in a calm, but firm and loud voice does not have any effect… then talk to someone about it.

A school counsellor or teacher will deal with it properly. You could also mention it to your parents.

The thing is never to act like it bothers you. That’s all the fun of the game to them.

I would never recommend fighting back because that means you demean yourself to the bully’s level. Also, it puts you in the wrong and you are less likely to get the support of others.

Far better to ignore, not react and seek help through the proper channels.

Once you start fighting back or “joining in” it makes it very difficult for teachers, counsellors, parents or advisors to see where the problem really lies and makes it impossible to deal with in a swift and simple manner.

Violence only serves to breed violence.

You can be “strong” in being assertive. Assertive is different to agressive. googling “assertive behaviour” or “assertiveness”. Here are a couple of links with lots of tips on how to act to control how others respond to you:

you can google “Bullying” and “Being Assertive” for more ideas.

He may have been bored and showing off for his friends…It sounds incredibly wrong but some people would do it for attention..
