i need help with wireless internet!

I’m trying to set up my wireless internet… it hasn’t been working properly for awhile now… basically I set it up with DCHP ?? downstairs and no password because I don’t understand how to set security up with it…
anyway upstairs I am trying to use the internet and it works but VERY VERY slow! I only have 54K!!!!!! I spend 80$ to have 54k its rediculous!! I need help if anyone has any suggestions… or do I have to hire someone …? :S

The slowness could be because of the distance you are from the router, that weakens the signal strength and the data transfer rate.

the signal drops off at a rate of 1/r^2, that is rather significant, add into the fact that any pits and pieces of metal or other stuff that are in the floor between you and it can cause interference and you could have a real problem. I’m usually about twenty feet from the router at my place and sometimes I can’t get any signal at all without the floor problem.

Uh, if you really do mean that you’re getting 54 Mb/s on your wireless, that would be because you’re on wireless. Assuming you’ve got 802.11g devices, rather than any of the way less common draft-n systems, 54 Mb/s is the best you can get.

My assumption could be wrong, of course. Can you give us some more detail on your whole network?
