help wanted: Heroes wanted…
the world has grown so desperate for heroes, that people are seeing the face of jesus in tortillas and george forman grills (just google “jesus appears in” to see for yourself). the world has plenty of people trying to jump-start the apocolypse, but what about people trying to jump-start a second renaissance? we’re always being told Not to try to be a hero, why? for self preservation? to keep us from doing something stupid? i’m not sure, maybe i need to be set straight, and by all means please do. i would like to hear about the unsung heroes, no matter how small the exploit may seem to anyone else. people need hope, people need to believe in something again, we make movies and comics about it all the time. what about the real world heroes? the one’s who save the weak and fight for us when we can’t? what about the selfless people who consider what is in the best interest for EVERYONE instead of just themselves or thier organization? if you or someone you know is a hero, let the world know you exist, let the world see that there are angels in the hearts of mankind! anything to counter balance the corruption, the greed, the hatred that seems to plague our everyday lives… a way to know that in some way, something is being done to heal the wounds of the world. if there are heroes out there, please speak up, we are in dark times, and we desperatley need you now. save a life, make a change, eliminate evil, give us your strength, and inspire us all to be heroes in our own way. “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace” -Jimi Hendrix

I absolutly agree with what your are saying people are always looking for heroes but people rarely think to take matters in our own hands we can all make a difference in our lives and someone elses if we just make the effort
that is the way of thinking this world needs more of, kudos to you lucyh15!

well… although my hero doesnt have anything to do with Jesus or anything of the sort.. i have to say that my 3 children are my heroes. they have literally saved my life more times than they know… they are the reason in which i breathe today..
i’m not looking for the next jesus, your exactly what i’m looking for. your kids are miracle workers in that respect. this is the kind of goodness i like to hear. anyone can be a hero, even children, and never even know it. no life is insignificant, and anyone who saves one deserves high praise. your heroes may go on to save many more than anyone can concieve. thank you for your post, we have a lot to learn from our children, just as they do from us. thank you for this unique perspective on the issue, and give your kids a heroes hug tonight.
Most heroes are right in front of us and we can’t see the forest for the trees. You are the hero of your world and if you have the skills or opportunity you can help on bigger issues. Self sacrifice is commendable, but it doesnt allow us to stand and fight another day. I completely agree with you and sadly we need more advocates. It has been a struggle for thousands of years and with our technology you would think that we would have a handle on some of these issues by now. Walk strong, tall and protect the children…they will inherit this problem. I promise to raise my children to be the advocate of the poor, misfortune and unspoken:)
I do agree, we need heroes, however we are told not to be because some one always dies when someone is a hero. People now seem to be taught to be selfish. Take care of yourself, protect yourself. Being a hero is being selfless. You choose to put your safety at risk to help some one else. Calling 911 is not being a hero. It’s just helping. Would you die for a stranger? Would you pick up a bum and let him live in your home. A hero puts others first. After reading the posts here it sounds like people want change but only if they can be safe in their little boxes. Just a thought. Take care.

i only wish i could… ~sigh~
Hi sweety shie..a call, a thought or a picture…kids know:) They love to hear it too. Your’s do:)
self-sacrifice is not nesissarly a prerequisite to being a hero, although such acts tend to be the ones more widely recognized. any act for the betterment of all involved that is not entirely self-serving is heroic. some people do things just to be recognized as a hero for the title itself, which is more self-serving than not. pres bush thinks he’s a hero, but at the cost of how many lives? did he really save anyone, or cause more death? a true hero isnt after the title, they are in it for the good that can come from their actions, regardless of reaping any benifits for themselves. feeding the hungry doesn’t line one’s pockets, curing an illness would only cut off the money that can be made from the treatment; when do the people benifit without having to make a sacrifice themselves to pay into it? if you cant work, you need social security disability, but you can’t get it unless you have worked and paid so much into it… just as an example.
Depends on you point of view. I see people obtain titles,so they can feel good about themselves. Because they did a good deed. I don’t see doing a few good deeds as making a hero. But that’s just my opinion. Take care.
A hero can use tools (Bush)or vehicles to accomplish small tasks. Bush may be a hero in some areas…God will be the judge:) Communication is the key. Write, write and publish.
If the mayor tells the firefighter to go safe some people, is the mayor the hero, or the person that risked their life to save them? Are a troops heros if they save us or the president that ordered them to save us? But like I said it’s based on your perception. I just want people to think. ^^
Well, I’m certainaly not one to claim that I’m a hero. Do I try? Heck yes.
So who are the heroes? Well, firefighters/Paramedics/Police spring to mind automatically. After all, they are giving their lives for the purpose of others, correct? But then, we have those other people that while doing their jobs help out in some way, right? So what’s this defining characteristic that takes one half of the populous and separates it from the other? Is it the life factor? The supposed bravery? What makes a hero?
Perhaps it’s easier to ask, “has this person done something that effected someone directly or indirectly in a positive way.” And when you look at that, you begin seeing hundred of thousands of everyday heroes, living their lives without knowing what they are. That guy that gave his umbrella to a homeless stranger, that woman who stood up for a pregnant mother on the bus, that kid who gave away his candy to his younger brother who fell and scraped his knee. The the thing is, is that we all have the potential for that single moment of selflessness, that moment where aware of it or not, we rise above petty squabbles, we rise above what we are, and let our true heroes shine.
Is it glorified? Does music start playing? No. But it’s those moments that define us, make us who we are: the moments that allow every last once of us, if only for a moment, to be a hero.

There you go. Just what you asked for! Your hero, btw in case it’s been forgoten, thank you:)
Thanks? 0.o (I’m assuming that was a form of a compliment but I’m a tad confused by it…)
Yes it was..the post asked for a hero…and I reminded them that they are all around and I was thanking you:)
P.S. Your costume makes you look like everybody else..lol.
cheers to the compliment rue to my strange thoughts
That’s this issue I see. If you classify everyone that does a good deed as a hero, then the word loses it’s meaning. He is a hero cause he did his job. (would he still run into the burning building if he was not paid to? If he never had been a firefighter? He is a hero cause he survived cancer, she is a hero cause she raised 3 kids by her self, he is a hero because he gave his seat to the old woman. You shouldn’t be praised for doing the right thing, you should do it because it’s the right thing to do. I’ve seen it over and over. My friend made it through rehab and they said you are a hero for doing this. Society over uses it so people can feel good about themselves, so they will do more good deeds. Society will not change if we bring the meaning of hero down to mediocrity.
But some real acts of heroics are not not mentioned at all such as people who are out their doing good deeds day to day in their lives like those who help with poverty and justice around the world but are hardly ever metioned in the media because we prefer to focus on the negative disasters going on rather than the more posative advances being made in the world
I think what lucyh15 said is absolutely right. And in my opinion there are small acts like helping some poor family, or being merciful to others and all the other small acts are heroic acts too…..
Some people don’t notice it, but there are people who do that all the time, and that’s in my eyes being a true hero…Most of the time, those people wouldn’t let other people know of their small acts. Maybe it’s the saying about if you did something good using your right hand, don’t let your left hand know about it. or something like that. But sure it is about the act and not about the person itself. There are so many heroes still. And they are everywhere…..
this is all really great stuff, i love how much thought is being put into this. how is a hero defined? maybe they never are. please continue to shed light on this, and give these different perspectives… there needs to be a media outlet that focuses on the good humankind does, instead of this 90% tragedy the news gives us. we have to take the good with the bad in balance. we all need to pay it foreward, and inspire the best in others to come out. imagine a world where people strive to help one another when they have more then they need for themselves… where power isn’t only used to control and manipulate, but to liberate, and to give back to the people. we are taxed several times over on each dollar we earn, and what percentage of that tax is going to ensure that even the lower-class can at least survive? we have heard about ethylene gas for years now, but can i go pump it today if i want? where is it? what about people who can’t afford to live close to town, but have to go there to buy food, yet can’t afford the gas money to go there? who is ensureing something is being done about it? why havent they stepped forward to tell us we don’t have to suffer for much longer? why can we mobilize troops in a few days to go to war, but it takes us weeks to give relief to hurricane victems on our own soil? the news makes me and so many others i know feel hopeless, my best friend is in iraq as a marine, and she says she’s not even sure what they’re doing there anymore, that they only want us to leave. as far as small heroics go, does not every little bit count? if we could overwhelm the bad things with good things, wouldn’t that be a nice change? how often has the world in it’s history known eras of peace and prosperity, where the focus could be on saving us as a species instead of developing new ways to kill each other? there are so many questions, i’m just fueling the fire because all your thoughts are welcomed. let’s hear as many as we can, and maybe, just maybe we can make sense out of this… someone, some group of good minded people need to discuss this, as it seems this rarely is. maybe we can stumble upon a way, an idea, a notion that needs to be heard by more, to give a voice of hope to the world, something we can all use to counterbalance the evils of the world.
i believe their can be a world where human kind is doing all these good deeds to help the planet and those living on it someone just needs to start it off the government in england had a chance yesterday to do this buy abolishing the John Lewis list (in case no one knows it s the amount of money the government are allowed to spend to furnish their second homes and all the money comes from taxpayers) if this was abolished then it would help the taxpayers so they feel less affected by the inflation and i think out of the 180 MPs that were ther about less than 30 voted it should be abolished.
I mean how are people supposed to begin helping eachother when the government can t even go out of their greed to help everyone in the coutry they are supposed to run
That argument about firefighters rushing into a building if they’re weren’t paid? That’s easy to agree with but there are those that do it as volunteers.
And then you think about their family. Those that every time the pager goes off at 2:00 in the morning mumble “good luck” those that live in fear that this is THE fire, the one he doesn’t return from. And aren’t they heroes of their own sort, having to live in that fear?
I think we all have the potential for it-but the only moments that get considered true acts are during times that require the confronting of fears and previous obstacles. We don’t look at someone that holds a door open as a hero-but then, why shouldn’t we? Sure we’ll say thank you and move on, but is that fair to that person? Yeah, he might not be wearing spandex, but you can’t deny it was a good deed. And while theoretically it should be done because it is good to do so, not everyone can follow that train of thought. I mean, without grades, would you seriously do your homework 100% of the time? Without money would you work your butt off every day? There SHOULD be something, even a little gold sticker, for those that did something right. Since communism, as seen in Cuba, doesn’t work. And with a reward system, won’t more people try to be good? I mean, yes, a good person will hold a door open, stand there for about 5 hours as the entire world suddenly chooses that door to migrate through, and gets a thank you. Nothing else. So why should someone (presumably not of the good conditioning) hold the door open for anyone? Well maybe it’s time that the good people started getting things, started getting recognition. Maybe it’s time to give the good people something for knowing what it is they’re supposed to do. Maybe.
Well, my brother was deployed to Iraq in 2006 and he will finish his term later this year. I think that it is important to report the good news that is coming from the Iraq War. Everyday we here problems and deaths, well how about the satisfaction that the U.S is lucky to have our military. Therfore, I think all the service men and women , including my brother, our the true unnoticed heroes.
