How long does it take to move on from a relationship?

Its been 2 and a half years now, and I’m still madly in love with a girl I dumped years ago and now wants to have nothing to do with me. We still get along great but she says that when “things are done, they are really done.” I’ve NEVER seen this girl on campus for the last few years, only recently I’ve been re-connecting with her (as she connects with her new boyfriend…breaaaaahhh) and it is driving me absoloutely insane. Is it irrational to think that these things are never going to stop haunting me? What do you do when you cant forget old love even in the face of a new relationship (not that I have any of those..)

Remember why you dumped her in the first place, then move on. She’s found another, so should you.

Since it sounds like you are in college, you should get out there and party. Let go, meet new people. If you were at one time in love with the person during the relationship, you will always feel that there may be something left behind(especially if it is your first love). This is normal. It is highly unlikely that she is the one that you are ment to be with. Just be friends. If it becomes more then it does.

your success to move on depends on your discipline to do so.
make yourself stop thinking about her. discipline yourself. get some hobbies, whatever - just cut it out. not healthy, not useful..

Start dating other women, eventually you will meet someone who is right for you - You dumped this girl for a reason, i think maybe you are only remembering the happy times you had with her. Was she your first love? If so it can take ages to get over her and the next girl who comes along you may find yourself comparing her as for some reason we tend to put our first loves up on a pedelstool. Dont do this, remember why you left her. xx

Actually no one knows when the time comes when you are ‘finally’ over with it. But maybe you will if you are going to do something about it. Meeting other people, talk to different groups and meeting someone nice. You don’t have to be in a new relationship to prove that you have moved on bec that would hurt you and the other person which is unfair.

Moving on is like thinking that you deserve to be happy once and for all.
