Could you give us a bit more information? What happens if you try to turn it on. Does it turn on at all, does it turn on but do nothing?

I’ve had that problem before, but I was lucky enough to be able to get it working for about 5 minutes so that I could back up my data. You could try opening it up and just cleaning it, but not the actual disk itself. If that doesn’t work, the only thing that I can think of is going to a computer store to see if they can point you in the right direction. Apart from that, I can’t think of anything else except the following link. I noticed you live in the UK, so it may be able to help you.

also goto start button select “run”
type this into the line “chkdsk x:” and press “enter”
where x=the leter of your external drive e.g. d: or e:
this runs checkdisk program and it can automatically fix some problems.

Hi I had this problem before, I’m sorry to tell you this but if you haven’t been able to sort your problem that’s because you had a disk damage the only way to retrieve data is to use a recovery software and then buy another disk cos this one won’t be reliable anymore
if you’re lucky and you can still access the disk you can try “RECOVER MY FILES” it’s a great recovery software and if you can’t access it you’ll have to take it to specialists they’ll retrieve your data but they’ll charge you depending on the number of GB you’re recovering and it could be expensive
God Luck
