University is a joke.
So is teaching. I’m 19, I did a year of Environmental science fresh out of highschool and hated it, changed to primary school teaching this year and still hate it. After doing a semester i do NOT want to be a teacher and I’m tired of university - I hate everything about it
I don’t know what i want to do in life. I’m just so lost now and im wasting more and more money each semester.
This makes me despressed as hell because i just dont want to live anymore if i dont have my life set out for me like everyone else does.
At university i always hang out with the same genre of people and they always end up dropping out. I’m just a witty smart guy and I find these courses and the people in them beneath me.
All that interests me is gaming and japanese pop culture.. I want to go there and get out of australia, the country is filth.
Regardless, i need to persue some kind of career but i just dont know what to do. All i can think of is teaching english as a second language in japan.. maybe games development. I just need to do something that will give me a reason to want to wake up.

Where were you?

“I’m just a witty smart guy and I find these courses and the people in them beneath me.”
There’s your problem.
I know that. Is there something wring with me? Everyone around me disgust me. Swearing, spitting, ******** they act like children.
Yes there’s something wrong with you - you’re an egomaniac with a superiority complex.
Let’s look at example A again - “I’m just a witty smart guy and I find these courses and the people in them beneath me.” You find university courses and every person in them beneath you. Don’t you see something glaringly wrong with that?
You don’t really know enough to be making assumptions like that yet.
My course is 90% women and the course is created by women and I believe, for women.
We have pathetic childish assessmentent that is completely irrelevant to the course and being in grounds with all women make me want to kill myself. The ******** behind peoples backs and stupid attidtudes makes it unbearable to work.
Groups*. Should really edit my posts before i submit
so not only are you an egotistical person with a superiority complex, youre also sexist? yea, youve got a great future in front of you with that attitude…
I’m just telling you what i’ve experienced.
Semester 1 was a nightmare.
And all I experienced was pretencious girls arguing and creating drama.
Frankly, I’m too tired for this tonight…
well, then change it.
or do something else that *interests* you.
if you can’t find something that interests you, then you definitely have a problem — but it’s not a problem other people can “give you” an answer for.
You could try a course in game development? Or if your dream is to move to Japan then try getting in contact with Japanese universities, even study there.
Or for a start do a course in Japanese so that can speak fluently before you go there. Would be a good use of your time if nothing else!
To be honest I think you’ve got yourself into a rut, if you are really that unhappy then you just need to leave and do something new entirely. Go travelling, or move to Japan all together.
I don’t think you are egotistical or sexist at all, I think that the longer you are in a situation you hate the more you start to despise and find fault with those around you, particularly those who are in the same situation yet flourish. You just need out mate.
Really, if you don’t like the courses you take, it’s normal. If you have means to continue changing courses that often, then, well, who will stop you? But if you want to conserve your energy and your time, why don’t you take some time off to figure out what you want to do?
If you like gaming, why don’t you try courses which may be useful for gaming? Like computer, graphic arts. If you like japanese culture, why don’t you try courses that will help you transfer to japan and study their culture?
There’s just so many solution to your problem. If you claim you’re a smart guy, then you can do something to figure it out.
I like gaming and japanese culture, too, btw. =)
Everyone likes gaming an japanese culture.. I just get put down for it because its so generic of todays under achieving lazy kid.
I am so confused. Everything is so complicated.
Im wasting more and more money.
All i want is to be happy. I can’t remember what its like. ive become so disconnected.
Well, at least now it looks like you’re getting closer to figuring out what’s up.
And that is *GOOD NEWS*!
BD
Make it simple: break it down into simple questions — like: do you want to stay in college?
Thats irrelevant
If i dont go to university and finish a course, my family will look down on me and I will never hope to earn more than a mediocre wage.
I’m hearing you say that you don’t really want to be in college, but it seems like you’re stuck there.
When you feel disconnected, you need a major lifestyle change. I guess now even a Japanese or game development course wont pick you out of the rut, so you need a complete overhall! I’d agree that going to Japan, if only for a holiday rather than to live, should give you the inspiration you need to plan your future, and most importantly, be happy again!
You can always go back to university after a break, loads of people do travelling before starting a course, so your parents should understand.
Do you think you could do 2 things at once? like:
1. continue with college
and also
2. do something that really interests you
I cannot continue with Primary School teaching.
I am not like those people. I am NOT passionate NOR enthusiastic. This is why i will never be as good as them. I do not like them or what its about.
The people i befreind always drop out or change. This has to mean something. People like me who are into pop culture and whatnot must persue other careers.
How about a career in pop culture? If you’re interested in it, then that seems like a good idea. What would you need to do to make it happen.
Mind you: I really have no idea what the term “pop culture” refers to — do you think you could explain it to me?
Well Japanese pop culture is the whole anime and manga, clothing and technology scene.
Not what I would like to study.
However to study games development and live in japan.
That would be my dream
Well, I know that there continues to be a great deal of interest in “educational games” — so how about turning your education studies into being something about “educational” games? (actually, I think all games teach *something*….)
I just booked an appointment to see a councillor
counselor.. so tired
cool! I think that shows that you’re taking this into your own hands and doing something about it!
So get some sleep — I think it looks like you’re on the up and up (and keep us posted! ;)
Thats a great start. Agreed with BD get some sleep, tomorrow is the start of a new life!
Follow your dream and happiness will follow. Studying games development in Japan would be perfect!

DONT GIVE UP.
Good for you seeing you dont like it and trying to get out. But maybe use less insulting language - its just enough that its not for you. Im not offended by your descriptions - but its kinda bad karma, isnt painting you in the best light.
KEEP LOOKing for what it is you want to do. I can only imagine how frustrating to be flailing/on a road you dont want or like but not knowing what road to go on. Hopefully there will be a different area you can switch to in order to finish your degree (maybe graphics? you can make anime?)…
hope you find what you like…i’m kinda where you are (AFTer a career, and not interested in the career o fchoice anymore) and its a tough road…g’luk
go to classes and get your basics, and for everytime you do that or get good grades, treat yourself to something good. like go out and eat at an expensive restaurant.
studying games development in japan sounds incredibly cool :D
good luck!!!
LOL. You’re not alone pal. I’m also not passionate and neither enthusiastic. LOL. And I smoothly finished a five-year course without actually feeling like I’m doing something I like. In the end, pal, I’m not practicing what I learned. And although I know other things that might interest me, I feel like I’ve wasted so much time already to get them back.
What I’m trying to say is: ask yourself what you want to be or, at least, what WILL catch and hold your attention for at least two years.
Regardless of your course, if you are educated in at least one field, you’re good to go.
