Is it possible to wear earphones (for an mp3 player or iPod) at the dentist while getting a filling?

I have a psycological problem when it comes to drills inside me mouth, meaning it’s not the pain I’m worried about, and i think wearing earphones would distract from my phobia. I don’t think it would inturrupt the procedure, considering the earphones aren’t near the mouth, but I want to make sure, because the last thing I want is an angry dentist.

OK - It’s your lucky day - I am terrified of dentists. My dentist, when I explained about the noise, was amazing. Not only should you wear the loudest headphones you can get your hands on but for some reason a pair of sunglasses help too. No kidding. He made sure that I didnt see the drill before he started work and then made me put on the headphones and sunglasses. The difference is incredible - something about that noise being taken away is magical. - Mas

p.s. - Later I actually spent - not too much - money on being hypnotised to get rid of this fear - it worked a charm. But I still use the headphones and sunglasses - good luck
