It is to be accepted or is there something else?

I don’t know. The press makes it seem like if you’re not absolutely gorgeous you are abnormal. It’s ridiculous.

I think people who want to be beautiful just have come to accept societies norm of “beautiful” and how it’s accepted by the masses. If ugly was the norm, then everybody would want to be ugly!

It’s a good feeling to dress up, be glamorous, have your boyfriend or whatever under your spell. I used to be pretty good looking and I can remember also not liking it because people would focus on me more and I didn’t like the attention and I couldn’t always just relax.

I think I’m okay, but my inner heart and soul in much more beautiful than the outside of me most of the time, lately I have been depressed.
I thank we all need to feel accepted some way some how….. I do, and don’t feel accepted now…

true

idk why people think that, the press focus on models and famous people. the people who have tons of money to make themselves look good. and if you ask me, thats a pretty abnormal lifestyle.

if you feel beautiful, you feel good about yourself. Its more about how you define beatiful itself.

I think if one loves them self then they are beautiful, and one can love everyone with no judging, or expectations, just the “loving” feeling and the positiveness.

it’s also the other way around. if you feel good about yourself, you feel beautiful.

that would defy the definition of ugly :)

they’d just replace the word with ‘beautiful’ and we’re back where we started! :]

What we see in magazines does not bother me but i do worry about the effect and influence it has on young people. As an adult i know the images are airbrushed and unrealistic. Whereas children really do believe what they see in the magazines are real. And what makes me worry even more is the fact that young children walk around with make up on these days. People are becoming obsessed with looks from such a younger age :(

beautiful, ugly, its all relative. Certain types of looks are in style then they go out of style. And we try to fit ourselves into the mold of whatever the style is. YOur eyes can tell you if a sight is pleasant or not, and a lot of it depends on what the person is like on the inside.

not really. it’s just question of the times. with so much advertising for the perfect person, it’s understandable to wonder about why the movement starts so deep.

I am not ugly by all means but I do not put myself so high on a pedestal to say that only ugly people would ask a certain question.

Ugly does not necessarily mean physically ugly. Ugly attitude, ugly disposition, ugly behavior, ugly interaction with everybody, ugly vocubulary (foul mouthed).

I like that. You get put in a mold and even if people brainwash you that you are so pretty it will mess you up.

Littlenick really nailed it. Some of the worst women I’ve ever known were good looking, but their personalities gave them an aura of ugliness. Pretty is as pretty does!
