I just get so tired of it sometimes. I feel like a zombie at work. I am always such a clutz. I just want to be able to go to sleep like everyone else. for it to be peaceful and restful. to wake up refreshed, not exhausted.

I have tried lots of things, including just staying up until I am so exhausted I just pass out. that stopped the nightmares, but I was useless during the days.

you direct your thoughts as you fall asleep… rememeber what sleeping is, with the REM and all that jazz. if you don’t look forward to sleeping then you’re in a bad or negative mood when you fall asleep. of course, it can always be a much deeper psycological thing, but if it’s just stress from your day that keeps you from resting peacefully, there are multiple things to try.

1- try to rid stress before bed, anything from a bubble bath to an extreme workout, whatever works.

2-make sure temp. is comfortable, your body heat changes during the night and it’s different for different people.

3-position… i know alot of people that sleep better in different positions with different pillow/blanket combos.

4-compaionship, human or animal, some people find that not sleeping alone helps.

Other advice:

1. No exercise within two hours of bedtime. It makes it harder to go to sleep.
2. Don’t try to go to bed before you are really getting sleepy.
3. No caffeine after noon. Drinking big glasses of cola or iced tea can leave you staring at the ceiling for hours.
4. No scary movies just before bed, e.g., “The Exorcist.”
5. Try to keep your “work” out of the bedroom. The bedroom should be associated with sleep–not gym equipment or television or computers.
6. You can usually drop off to sleep using Benadryl, which is an antihistamine. Try this if nothing else works . . . but remember it can make it harder to wake up in the morning.
7. Don’t read a “page turner” of a novel.
8. Get a square, foam pillow so it will cradle your head and keep you from getting your shoulder up on the pillow, which will cause you to strain your neck.
9. An alarm system and good locks help to give a feeling of security.
10.Go to sleep with a Bible beside you.

i dont believe in god. i believe in science though so having a bible if you dont believe really honestly serves no purpose.

I wonder how many atheists read at least 250 books on theology before declaring they don’t believe in God. I feel I would have to read at least 250 books on science before saying that I didn’t believe in science. For me, atheism is like going to the public library, reading five books on the library shelves, and then pronouncing yourself qualified to discuss the other 10,295 books you didn’t read.

I agree with you chev, but I also think you should read at least 250 books before you are able to start recommending religion to anyone. I personally believe in god, but that is my belief, and it did take me a long time to come to it. while I believe in god, I dont think there is one right religion. I believe all religions have basically the same message: love you neighbor and be a good person. I think some religions just resonate more with some people. I believe you should do your research before saying there is no god, and I believe you should also do it before deciding what religion is good for you. I think if you do your research your beliefs are even stronger. to refuse to read smoething just because it conflicts with what you believe is like saying you dont believe it strongly enough in the first place. sorry, i guess I got off topic here, but I think you made a good arguement and I just wanted to add to it.

I dont think there is anything wrong with not believing in God. I do believe in God, and if I am right I doubt God would mind if someone didnt believe as long as they were a good person and trying to help others. and just by being on this site caramel shows that you are interested in helping others. I think that is enough.
