Love help: ME is not THEM. - Help.com

ME is not THEM.

I don’t join social networking groups because I’m not interested in collecting “friends” as if they were virtual Garbage Pail Cards. I do not need to keep abreast of who is and is not getting drunk this Thursday night at Tappers. I don’t get drunk anymore, so there’s no need to save me a seat. I don’t take pictures of my friends and post them online because I don’t see most of my friends anymore. When I do see them, none of us has a camera and wherever we might be is less than picturesque. I don’t skip down to the local tourist trap and watch all lemmings do their predictable dance. I don’t hang around the international students and try to solicit a few dates or learn how to say “cheesy” in German. I don’t call my friends and exuberantly discuss plans for our future apartment. I don’t even want a future apartment. I don’t want a current job, but I’d like a future job. I’m also glad people have stopped asking me about my job. I spend most of my days cleaning up barnyards, building things that no one will use, and moving boxes from place to place. It might be fairly enjoyable, if it weren’t for the fact that notion that it’s all so terminal. Today, my Facebook profile doesn’t read “Madison Bound!” It just reads “Here.”

I don’t like being told which streets to take.
I don’t like being watched when I eat.
I don’t like that what I eat is never enough of the right thing.
I have too many shoes.
I have not enough socks.
I’ve had right and left-footed socks since I was four; deal with it.
I have never, ever wanted for me to be an engineer. Neither did any of my math or science teachers.
No one has ever wanted me to be an artist.
I loathe two things above all else in life: Pointy shoes and backseat drivers with no sense of direction.
I love ice cream and sunshine but I give my heart to Help.com

I agree. If this MySpace/look-at-me generation spreads any further, they’ll own the internet. But it’s by giving that we keep that crap off of here. It truly is sad that there are people out there who value things like that so highly, but with any luck, they’ll read this too, and possibly come to their senses.

Oh you totally are not. In fact, I once even saw a sitcom bit about it! You can’t put socks on the wrong feet, because then there is that *moment* of discomfort. I’ve done so in a pinch, but it totally throws me off. It used to drive my parents mad b/c when I was little and pick out socks for me, I’d refuse to put them on unless they were correct. They were like “what do you MEAN they don’t match!?!” I must have been a very OCD six-year-old.

See that’s what I’m trying to teach my kids! Don’t be what you are told to be, be who you are, even if it doesn’t fit the mold!!

i swear to god…. to this very day… i still have a right and left sock.. and you are right.. if they are on the wrong feet.. it just doesnt feel right.. i mean.. i dont even have to look when i put my socks on and i can tell that they are on the wrong feet… lol.. it makes it very hard when i fold socks while doing laundry.. because .. not only do the socks have to match.. but i have to be sure they are matched with a right and left sock… lol…

you are right.. i personally believe it has to do with ocd… my daughter stephanie was diagnosed with it… and now that i look back through life… wow… what a mess… i must have been.. lol.. even now.. i can have say 20.00 in my purse or pocket.. and while walking through the store.. i will either reach in my pocket or unzip my purse like a million times.. just in that short time walking through the store… just to make sure it didnt jump out… lmfao.. .it is quite annoying at times.. and i try to tell myself.. it hasnt gone anywhere.. but i still have to look to satisfy my brain… omg.. so many things that i could tell you that i had to do and re do.. just to satisfy my brain growing up…. lol… and even to this day…

but seriously… THERE IS a left and right sock… lol..

LOL. Before I was diagnosed, occasionally my friends would comment on what I thought was simply my quirkiness. Once they went into my room an rearranged a single item on my shelf to see if I would notice. I did. There was a cup upside down. It was promptly corrected.
