computer help: My computer aquired some kind of virus or spyware last week and we had to crash the computer. - Help.com

My computer aquired some kind of virus or spyware last week and we had to crash the computer.

We did this by hitting the F10 key and redoing the computer. I am not a computer literat person so I do not know the correct terms. I bought the McAfee Internet Security Suite for my sons 2 laptops and my computer. Now I cannot get it to download back onto my computer. The icon is still there but nothing else. I only bought it this summer (June 2008) so I know it cannot be out of date. I need this back on my computer but how do I get it back? When we got the virus or whatever it was, we ran the McAfee over and over and it did not detect it but my computer was definitely affected. I tried to backdate it and it did not help. Redoing it was our only option. Please reply as this computer is very important to our family. My son is trying to get a job and I do online classes. Thanks, Terry Ann Henry-Flowers email (email removed)

I use avast anti-virus. I’ve used McAfee but it didn’t work as well.
Avast is free and I have yet to get a virus on my PC with it.

Download Ccleaner too. That should help as well.

You may need to format and reinstall everything if these can’t detect the virus.

I’m not full knowledgable on these things, but this usually works for me.

Good luck!

If your PC seems like its slowing down or having a hard time surfing the web or just doesn’t seem right.
You should go to http://download.com and get these programs.
AD-Aware: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.htm…
Spybot search and destroy: http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search…
CCleaner: http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000…
and and if you dont have an Antivirus program you can use
Avast: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Ed…
or AVG: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Viru…
and for your firewall a good program is
Zone Alarm: http://www.download.com/ZoneAlarm-Fir…
Install these programs and run them regulary. This will keep your system clean and running properly. These programs are free and Download.com is a part of CNET (the site that your posting on right now). Hope this helps :-)
