I am not much with animals but if you already had a lab then maybe you can try taking care of a cat. Well, i don’t help much in this case. Hehe.

Anyway goodluck!

You’re lucky. People call me sadistic when I’m around animals…

Anyway I’d go with the cat. I know several people (both online and real life) who owns both and I think it would be cool to have both, don’t you think? Dogs when you’re energetic and cats when you’re lazy and in front of the TV!

congrats on the new addition. my concern would be “what is the temperament of your current pet around new animals? would there be small children that could become hurt from a puppy and it roughhousing? would the household size be too much stress for a kitten?” another consideration is the bred of kitten or puppy you get. the bred makes a big difference. i had kittens that had extremely different personalities. i researched the breeds and had some “ah ha!” moments. when i realized i was not a kitten or cat person, i ended up getting a jack russell terrier puppy. for me, he is the perfect companion and always happy. example. this breed is not for most. they are always hyper and turbo run through your house every chance possible. he has been doing it at 2:30am to 3am for the past 3 years. they are also big dogs in a little dog’s body. i cannot imagine life without him. i said all this to say, many people turn them into the shelter after having them for a little while because they cannot deal with the hyperactivity of this breed and how rough they play with young ones or their aggressiveness. so i say, consider very carefully about how well this new little one will fit into your family and do not focus on the cuteness. i researched my puppy’s breed before i picked him up at 8 weeks old. he is the greatest “son” i have ever had. :)

We have two Bengal cats, fantastic cross between temperament of a cat and a puppy and have their own independence which suits busy family life. They play with the kids, follow them around and are very engaging in a way most cats aren’t. Very noisy and chatty, they can’t help answering when you talk to them, just really funny, energetic little things who want to be in the thick of it, but don’t demand walks! They take of that for themselves…….they are prolific hunters though……something to bear in mind with any cat really.

I’d get the dog. Only because I can’t stand those litter boxes and the dust that comes up when someone else just pours it in. It messes with my allergies. I have both I love the cat but if I had to do it over again I would have my two big dogs and a small lap dog. I can’t stand buying litter and it gets expensive. I clean it out daily and change it weekly. I like my dogs because they go outside and I scoop it up and throw it in the trash every other day and they always go potty in the same area (that’s how I trained them though.) They also can be calm when you want them to be and active when your lonely. Plus I never see my dogs walking on my kitchen counters. Darn those cats but I wouldn’t give her up now that I have her but she’s my last cat.

Dog. It would give your other dog company when there is no-one home.
