Money etiquette…

My friend/roommate at one point owed me around $50.00 to help pay for a day trip for which I prepaid and organized. She is very reliable and I am almost positive that she paid me back the day of the trip (just this past Saturday), but today she handed me $50.00 and said it was the trip money. When I told her I thought she’d already paid, she contradicted me and forced me to take the money. A good number of people owed me money, so it’s possible I could be mistaken… I guess this is sort of a ‘nice’ problem to be in, as one of us is in danger of being too generous, but I can’t shake this feeling of guilt that she may have repaid me too much, yet I see no way to force the money back on her. We are both financially tight college students, and I wouldn’t want to put her out any more than she already is. I guess there’s really no advice to be had here… Maybe I should buy something we could both use? Am I being crazy?

By the way, Bluecat, when are you going to repay ME the $50 I loaned you?

Aw, shucks! She caught on! ;-)

I had a problem w/ being too “nice” and “generous.” This isn’t a good thing. Some people will see you as a pushover after awhile. I suggest you firm up when situation dictates, and show grace in others.
