WTF is this?

Convert Sam week?
As usual I’ve been spending my time doing not much this week but I took my random research in the direction of Religion origins. Now I’ve looked at it a fair bit before, (the whole Christian/Egyptian thing etc) but kind of just let it drop and moved on to other things. And then this week, it’s like, as soon as I start looking into this, I get crazy fools trying to make me go to their church. I got Jehovah’s Witnesses giving me booklets and telling me all sorts of crazy stuff, I got Mormons actually coming in my house and watching a DVD with me, before asking if I would like to be picked up in their car on Sunday to go to church! Some crazy American guy who was convinced I was a Buddhist?

But the thing is, I don’t want to be an ******* to these people like some people are. But when I’m trying to hint and/or politely decline their offers to go to church, they really don’t seem to get it?

Maybe it’s a sign that I better hurry up and pick a religion, seeing as the Sun is gonna eat us soon and all. XD

Sometimes you need to sprinkle a bit of ‘a$$hole’ on your character to get a point across. A simple ‘Sorry, I’m not interested’ and walking away should do it. And if they persist, say you’re going to get a **** restraining order if they don’t leave you alone.

lol, the thing is, I am interested in learning about their religion and things like that, just not becoming one of them. That’s the problem. I’ve tried saying this and it doesn’t seem to get through at all.

dazmo: I have no desire to be ‘religious’ or not. I have beliefs which affect my decisions etc just like everyone does. However I’m happy to keep learning for several years before I start worshiping something that somebody else has told me about.

well in that case i would say the same things to you that they are saying to you. go to their church. its really the best way to get a mroe solid feel for their ways, since youll undoubtedly be subjected to the vibes of many individuals who all gather under the banner of the religion you wish to study. you may also get a chance to talk to higher-ups. priests and such, people who ahve devoted large chunks of their life if not their entire lives to studying this subject that interests you. . .
of course they will solicit you to join them, and most of them are well trained to be very persuasive.
but im like you, im a seeker. and one thing ive learned studying various religions is that you cant take everything you see on the internet seriously. for example, im dating a girl right now whos been a mormon all her life and showed her a cartoon “banned by the mormon church” on youtube that expressed many of their “beliefs”. she was like wtf was that. but anyway, for research outside of the religious meeting places, and 1-1 discourse with people educated in specific theologies, i would reccomend the library. the internet is a great source of information but for things of a controversial nature (religion, politics, etc) the “peanut gallery” is absolutely enourmous. good luck to you :)

Wikipedia has the low down on all of their religions. If you say you’re interested in learning what they have to say, they’re going to assume that means you want to be one of them. And they’re going to keep coming to your house and sending people to your house until you’re sorely tempted to commit genocide.

Tell them you’re not interested and look up their wacky beliefs on wikipedia.

Dear Jesus,

I’m not a believer, but please turn my car into a boat. Alternately giving me superhuman abilities to walk across the ocean is also an acceptable alternative.

Your friend,
Times’

Jehova’s Witnesses and Mormons don’t take polite hints because they are like sales people. They are trained not to hear a no until it is loud and clear. Something soft like “sorry, I’m busy next sunday” is a soft no. It means no, but not really. I just have reservations. A hard no is “No I’m not interested. Thank you.”

I would advise you to go to church just to learn what they are about but I am afraid they might start using more coercive techniques once you are there. Read about religions at chapters instead, then when you find a religion your interested in, knock on their door.

In the US the Mormons only come to your house if you get a copy of The Book of Mormon.

Incorrect. Mormon missionaries go door to door and they don’t carry anything that tells them whether one house or another has a book of Mormon.
