Talula does the Hula…

.
A little nine year old girl in Hawaii was named that, She was so embarresed she wouldnt even tell her closest friends. A new zealand judge had her a ward of court so her name could be changed, im not sure what that really means, but basically he changed her name, other names were “banned” so to speak, such as Fish and chips,Yeah Detroit, Keenan got lucy, and Se*x fruit, but allowed the names Number 16 bus shelter and violence. Now although I find these names VERY odd does anyone really have the right totell you what you cant name your child? I mean it would be incredibly embarrasing for the child, but even still, is it okay to say whats a good name, and whats not?

well, if the child has a problem with it then yes, i think a judge has every right to step in. i wouldn’t want my name being something rediculous like that. my mom’s a tutor and she had to teach two kids, one had the name Travesty and the other Vagina. if you’re stupid and cruel enough to name your child such names, then yeah, other people can decide them for you. thats my two cents.

Interesting question.
Although they’re not dictating what people can name their child, they’re just allowing the child to change the name if they hate it for good reason.
But wow, it was really mean of those parents :/

i think that whoever names their child Sex fruit, bus shelter, violence, or anything else stupid should be beaten vigorously and THEN forced to change the name

I think that question is the same as one that has been asked since the beginning of time. How far should the government be allowed to go? While this topic is not as serious as abortion or capital punishment it is still an extension of the same question. Does that make sense?

I think children should be able to pick their own names,When they are old enough to talk well enough that is.

If that happens the kid will forever respond to what their parents have called him and once he is old enough to talk, if his name is really that bad, he won’t know the difference until much later. lol It would be too late. *Evil laugh*

well.. i personally hate my name.. and would change it if i had a chance..
as for my daughter.. she too hates her name.. her name is keisha.. i absolutely love it… but its her right to hate it.. because she never had the right to say.. ok.. that will do..

so if a child finds an issue with their name.. i think they have the right to change it.. once they hit a certain age.. as maturity counts for this..

but again.. its the childs opinion on what they would like to do..

Wow this was discussed on the wright stuff yesterday. I think there should be a law banning stupid names. Parents can always give thier child a nick name. Mines smoogie.

A child has to be 18 to change thier name can you imagine the teasing and bullying that a child would sustain with a silly name.

sometimes the teasing leaves permanent scarring but its a shame you cant choose parents who wont give you a silly or downright embarassing name.. like that woman who named her child after the tellytubby….
