Seeking someone experienced with custody law in the States.
I have a situation. Within this situation, there are five elements.
Element one: A wonderful 14-year old sister who is a genuinely good person, even though she is dangerously unsure of herself.
Element two: Our mother, a ::expletive deleted:: like no other who makes a great deal of money as a full-time RN, yet never has enough left over after her drug habit to pay for things such as electricity or food.
Element three: Our mother’s new husband, a man convicted of murder in Vegas in 1986, released in 2004. A very angry, illiterate man who has threatened my life for reasons as yet unclear to me. Also on drugs.
Element four: Reserved for all those that have tried to help me, usually in the form of making reports to CPS (child protective services). This group includes friends, coworkers, fiance, neighbors, family members and one stranger.
Element five: Reserved for all the people and organizations whose duty it is to step in between an abused and neglected child and those who abuse and neglect her, but haven’t, including CPS and various city officials which I have petitioned, including school counselors at my sister’s school.
So, the essential problem is that nothing has been done. We can’t even get CPS to show up at the door, I can’t afford a lawyer, and I make too much to qualify for pro bono in Texas.
Might anyone else out there have an idea?
