Caged Heart
Just a poem I wrote. My apologies that it’s long, I had to keep going until I could finish it.
She gazes in wonderment at the screen
There’s a figure there, but it’s not what it seems
No sound, no movement, no happy kicks
The heartbeat has stopped and she’s staring at his
She mentally wishes she could crawl up and hide
For the one thing that’s left, she’s the reason has died
She blocks herself off from the memories and shame
For the reason she’s sad, there’s no one to blame
She moves on with her life, but her heart is tied shut
A book full of stories, and a mind filled of crust
She twists her world up like an elegant dream
She never tells anyone of the breaking she’s seen
The tears that she cries, she hide them with smiles
Laughter they believe, is the truth through her lies
One day she comes across, a heart full of stone
And she finally sees, that heart’s like her own
She’s confused and shut out, she’s lost, and afraid
She’s given her heart up, and now she’s ashamed
But the heart she presents, is still locked in a cage
She’s afraid to show honestly, she’s afraid to see rage
So she sits there and sugar-coats, not letting him in
She paints on her smiles, and let’s the lock win
Alone in her world of memories, and pain
She curses herself, for believing the game
Never again, will she hand someone the key
To see through her eyes and see what she sees
But she’s broken that promise, she’s letting him in
And she scared she can’t take it back once again
Her hearts in his care, and she can’t turn away
For he’s perfect to her, and she’s nothing but play
So she brushes it off, and keeps to herself
And her own heart to her, is kept on that shelf
