How old must you be to travel alone on a flight?

I’m thinking the answer is the most obvious one which is 18, but I have heard otherwise.

Different airlines have different rules. But I am confident children can fly younger than 18 if they are dropped off and collected and left in the hands of a designated steward. You would have to go to the relevant airline and look up their rules.

What? No, I think it’s like 5. My friend has a daughter who flies to see her, but she has to travel with an adult til she’s 5.

Wow, really? But don’t you must have a guardian or parent present at the time of checking in for a flight?
