How can I help animals and nature if I don’t necessarily want to be a vet or a researcher?

What I really love is writing. But I also like animals and being around them. I want to know that I made a small contribution to their welfare before I go, but I don’t realistically see veterinary and environmental degrees in my future, and for good reasons (no, I’m not just lazy). What do I do? What can I do? Are there other careers that can let me combine my writing skill with my love of the outdoors and the cute little creatures that live in it?

You could volunteer at an animal shelter. I voluntter at one myself. Basicly what you do is walk dogs, play with the animals, cleaning their kennels, and other stuff related to that. Mostly its walking dogs.

What about choosing endangered animals, any kind, birds, mammals, one or two and get in contact with conservationists, travel with them and write about how these animals are coping with survival of human entrusion to their territories, how these conservationists are coping with lack of funding to keep them alive, etc. etc.

A doggy day care or something like that, You can volunteer, Theres millions of pet jobs out there that involve writing; You just have to search. You can work at the Zoo. If your really interested, You can always work at a wild life exhibit for endangered animals.

Absolutely!!! If you can dream it you can achieve it- you can write about the plight of animals and the environment in fiction or nonfiction or both. You can begin your own nature compound somewhere in the world preserving nature and the animal life. You can do like a combination cable access/web show/travel channel thing and be the Samantha Brown of animal and environmental travel- sort of like the Crocodile Hunter but safer. You can take what you know and love and volunteer to teach children (community school or library program) basics they would need to grow a love for nature and animals… you can run a visitors farm and have people come to help sustain like an organic farming situation while paying for the chance to get away from the city- then you can blog or write about it to drum up support. You can write for nonprofits that need support and attention or anything!!! I hope you find what’s right for you though- it is important that we have something left tomorrow…

Try writing about your passions and send them off to a publishing company.
the sky is your limit hun, dont hold back.
and yeah, volunteer at a shelter. That should start you off
