school help: Hi, so, I am a teenager thinking of having a medical career. - Help.com

Hi, so, I am a teenager thinking of having a medical career.

I have put a lot of thought into what I want to do when I get out of school and start collage. And I think that I would do well in this field - maybe as a nurse.

I’m wondering though, if there would be a way to get a part time job that would give me some experience on the subject. Also how I would start about getting that… And what age would you think is appropriate for such jobs?
So. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You could get your CNA (nursing assistant) and get your feet wet

Is there a certain age requirement for that?

I think you have to be 18 but maybe instead you could get a job in just a health facility so you could at least see what it’s like without having to go hands on

Hmm, yeah, I think I could do that. I’ll have to see what my community has to offer - since I’m fifteen I don’t think I can work toward getting a CNA yet, maybe when I’m sixteen but I’m not sure what the exact age is where I am.

But even a small job would help me at this point if it’s in a medical environment.

I dont know what the system is where you are, but i found that if you contact your local hospital, they always need people to work as orderlies or health care assistants. the only problem if you want to do nursing is burn out. I did some health care work in retirement homes during my nursing course and because most of it was very basic tasks, i was almost put off nursing. So i stopped and realized how fun nursing was! but where i am theyre so desperate for people that i think 15 is the cut off, depending on how physically capable you are.
Hope that helps!

You can be an EMT once you turn 17. Also look for jobs at nursing homes. Hospitals often need assistant dieticians, pay is decent and the qualifications are low. Shadow a LOT of medical professionals to see if you really like what they do.
