talk help: Religious Debate! - Help.com

Religious Debate!

Ok, so there is currently a post going on called, “Does anyone else talk to Angels?”

http://help.com/post/184480-does-anyo...

As i started voicing my opinions, someone said that the post there was not for debating, but rather for discussing any fun encounters with angels! (Lol.)

I decided that there have been many posts on here which have indirectly led to religious debates, so why not make an official one now?

To start off this fun debate, I will begin with a statement.

God doesn’t exist.

Now, prove me wrong.

What’s the point of ever discussing any subject with anyone where two people have opposing views?

If you walked into a room full of scientists and asked them is there such a thing
as God most of them would say no.
Then if you asked them is there such a thing as “nature” they would all look at you
as though you’re crazy.
Of course there’s nature.
If you then asked them “what is nature?” they would proceed to tell you
it is this great, invisible, all-powerful force, that controls all the
seen and unseen things in the universe.
Sounds like God doesn’t.
Nature and God are simply two names for the same thing.
Nature being the scientific name and God being the religious name.

people have their own opinions and reasons to believe/not believe.

i wouldn’t cut down someone else’s religion like this guy appears to be trying to do.

but i will voice my opinion against someone else’s.

yes but there is a difference between pies and god.

pie is an opinion, and opinion can change.

but there is a fact if whether god exists or not. the only way we can truly find out is when we die.
some of us, (like me)

There is no way to argue faith. You either have it or you don’t. Obviously there is no way to prove that God exists, besides faith. So I don’t understand how this can be a debate. It’s just people forcing their opinions on each other.

If christians know that they’re not the actual story, why am i always hearing, “Lucifer; 12 - 3 ‘And thus Paul said that all Gays will give you aids and bite off your fingers, thus you should shun and burn them from society.’”

The letters of the prophets and things like that are really just the human interpretation of God’s message. But since those words were put into the bible, Christians accepted them as God’s own word. Not ALL Christians agree with it, though.

I found a missing piece of parchment that archeologists and theologians alike believed to be from the very first Dead Sea scroll. It reads: “Characters and events depicted are fictional. Any similarity between these and any person either living or dead is strictly coincidental”. What do you think it means?

Ok so, my conclusion is that all of the Catholics who preach hate are just angry people who condemn any lifestyle different than theirs, using the Bible’s scriptures as a stepping point.

I am Atheist, However, i will always respect people that “follow god’s initial message”, to love one another, and don’t preach that same hate.

Thank you very much Nellie, and i’m sorry if i aggravated you.

Alright, alright; I’ll admit to that - I should have said that ‘in my experience scientists dont believe in God’ which is true for me; I’ve never met a scientist who didn’t look at me like I was a fruit loop short of a bowlful if I started telling them about what I believe in, but maybe there are scientists out there who believe in God. Like, here is an example of a possible misinterpretation:

Commandment Numero Two:
2. Do not have any other gods before me.

Now, it could have meant “god” like idols and such, which worked for the time that the Ten Commandments were created, because worshiping idols was popular.
But really, here is how I read it:
God = love, which is what Christians believe.
If your life centers around love, then that is good, yes?. But if your life centers around another “god”, like money, or power, or fame, then that is bad, yes?
So perhaps what God really was saying was: Your life must be devoted to love, and nothing should come before that.

Great example of relativism whatever your truth is. The statement should actually say whatever “the” truth is. Absolutes have given way to relativism. Its terrible how far from the truth folks have actually gone now we can create our own truth and live in that blindness. Whatever makes you feel good is another good one.

No. I’m more than happy to ignore logic and do stupid/crazy things, but without logic these actions are neither stupid or crazy.

Your choice. So long as you enjoy your truth and don’t harm anyone else then that’s what counts

Great example of relativism whatever your truth is. The statement should actually say whatever “the” truth is. Absolutes have given way to relativism. Its terrible how far from the truth folks have actually gone now we can create our own truth and live in that blindness. Whatever makes you feel good is another good one.

You just said the EXACT same thing in another post, so look for my reply there.

I’ll say it again, whatever DOES make people happy is what matters, why does it bother you so much?

It doesn’t bother me in that sense its just kinda shocking how far away from truth folks run. It just shows how pathetic the human condition has become. Its been an eye opener for sure.

Hahaha looking at your profile, as well as some of the recent posts you made, it’s extremely obvious you are what i was referring to before, a hateful closed-minded christian.

“http://www.exodus-international.org/ This is a site that helps with escaping the bondage of homosexuality. I’ve heard testimony of folks who have gotten out of the lifestyle to live normal lives. “.

I feel horrible that i am still chained by the bondage of homosexuality, and will try to escape my sinful lifestyle so i can ascend to heaven.

I think you should try rethinking yourself as a person, and focus more on helping people, instead of making them feel bad.

Hahahaha.

You’re so gullible, the quote marks were something she said on a post, then i was basically mocking her, but that was me talking.

Haha and i’m not a “homosexual”, i’m just someone who happens to be in love with a man.
My sexuality is just one thing about me, i dont like labels.

Hahaha, “you’re not hating.”

Extremely hateful, self-righteous people like you are the reason that one of my friends died.
Don’t say you’re sorry i feel that way, say sorry that your hate brings such sadness to people.

im just curious about why you disagree with homosexuality?

I believe God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve, I’m a believer in the created order of both God and of nature. But what I did was go off on a tangent and got folks upset. Waht I shouldn’t be doing is trying to shove that dowm peoples throats I get a little carried away with my convictions.

Hhahah seriously, i love those half-a$$ed apologies.

Like, “Oh Jill, i apologize for the way that you reacted to my comment.”

Lol, Adam and Steve.

Great way of proving your point, but wait isn’t that changing god’s words? Blasphemy!

From what I understand, “In the eyes of the lord, all sins are equal.”

You probably committed some sin in your life, so what makes you so high and mighty?

So how about you DONT preach your hate, and how about instead of getting carried away in your convictions, eliminate them altogether?

i REALLY hope you don’t have kids, i’d hate for two more angry people to come into their world, who go out of their way to condemn other people.

Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities — the political, the religious, the educational authorities — who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing — forming in our minds — their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable open-mindedness, chaotic, confused vulnerability to inform yourself. Monotheism is the primitive religion which centers human consciousness on Hive Authority. There is One God and His Name is _______ (substitute Hive-Label). If there is only One God then there is no choice, no option, no selection of reality. There is only Submission or Heresy. The word Islam means “submission”. The basic posture of Christianity is kneeling. Thy will be done. Each religion has got their own way of making you feel like a victim. The Christians say “you are a sinner”, and you better just zip up your trousers and give the money to the pope and we’ll give you a room up in the hotel in the sky. - Timothy Leary
