I have a fear of trying new foods but I don’t know why.

There are certain foods I will only eat. I will only eat chicken and occasionally eat turkey but I refuse to eat beef, pork, lamb, stake. I don’t eat fruit that I haven’t tried. I don’t know why I refuse to try them. I can only eat apple occasionally, bananas, grape, strawberries and certain tinned oranges. The only vegetable that I don’t mind is broccoli. I’ve noticed that the only food I do eat is junk and that’s bad for me but i can’t try new foods.

If you only like junk but want to eat better, you can incorparate healthier food into the junk. Like putting strawberries or bananas in ice cream, or whatever. It’s easier to try something new when its eased onto your palate with something you like ;)

People that know me today could never tell i didn’t eat a vegetable until I was 13.
I basically lived on potatoes, didn’t eat rice, pasta or anything else.

Today a meal has most of the time at least 3 different vegetables (from tomatoes to artichokes, from green beans to scorzonera) and I prefer stuff like couscous, bulghur, quinoa, tagliatelle and whatever is out there.

Always on the hunt for the most exotic ingredients to try new stuff.

How did that change?

Well, basically, I have been forced.

I came in situations where I just had to eat what was on the table.
And it would have been rude to refuse.

At a moment I started to create these moments more and more, as I was learning to eat stuff and started to like more and more.

Go out for dinner with some people (that was my trick, cost some money, but you’ll be thankful later you did).
As I am vegan I always asked beforehand to get me a vegan meal but further no restrictions. I had the most creative amazing dishes in front of me, stuffed with the strangest fruits and vegetables.

Another trick may be to just decide to order the same as the person left from you, whatever it is that that person orders.

I know it is tough to start eating stuff you are ‘afraid’ of, but once you do, you’ll be a happier person.

It is also a lot easier later when you come in social situations and can just join the gang.

I know a guy studying business management and he literally only eats hamburgers, without that one leaf of lettuce and the slice of tomato.
He will have a hard time later on engaging in dinners and receptions, which is a part of his future…

i know exactly how you feel, i never try new foods. the idea of it makes me feel really panicky, and i wont have it on my plate. it means i can only eat the really basic foods such as pasta rice and chips.

as my mother doesnt eat a lot of vegetables i never had them when i was growing up, and so dont eat them now either.

i’ve always thought that my fear of trying new foods has come from being forced to eat things i didnt want when i was a child, but i dont know that for sure.

i have always found it difficult to eat with other people, as they can go almost anywhere they want if their eating out, where as im stuck with itallian. its something that a lot of people around me have just had to get used to, but if you really want to change then just do it slowly in your own time, and dont be disheartened if you dont like something. you cant like everything!

i have the same thing, except with pizza. i am only in my teens and am very active, so i am in good health, but i fear for whe i get older. i am scared about having heart attacks and obesity. i do eat fruit but absolutely no vegetables or meat. i really do feel embarassed by this fear and i hate it when people ask me why i don’t eat certain things. they don’t understand, it isnt hard for them.

Maybe you can sense the fertilizers and chemicals added. Have you tried going to an organic food store and seeing if you want to try those foods?
