school help: My 2 year old beagle will not go to bed at night. - Help.com

My 2 year old beagle will not go to bed at night.

He will fall asleep down stairs on the sofa, but when it is time to go to bed, he will not sleep. He sits and cries for hours. I have tried numerous things, such as putting him in a crate to sleep (he is crated when we are away and if he does something bad and I know he sleeps in the crate), to putting him on a leash so he is right next to me and cannot move, to turning on my air conditioner so it is not hot in my bedroom when it is bed time (he pants heavily and I thought he was hot, but it is freezing in here and he is still panting). School is comming soon and I cannot be awake until 3 or 4 in the morning fighting him to go to sleep…Anyone have any ideas or suggestions???

I don’t think it is that, like I said, he sleeps in the crate, or if I am in another room he will sleep away from me, or if my mom has him, he will fall asleep for her… It has only been the last few weeks that this has happened, but it is getting to the point where both of us are very frustrated.

That was very very harsh first off this is a place for help and that wasn’t help not the way it was delivered i dont know if you ever noticed but people dont listen well when you speak down to them. Now back to helping u might want to try giving him some exercise durning the day he might have to much pent up energy.

Earthier way u have to consider when u talk to some one like that they usually ignore what ur saying even if ur right so if she ignored u all you did was hurt some ones feelings

excuse me but I have raised dogs for 16 years, I am not some stupid kid, I am in college, I am asking for some suggestions… I do let him move, he is the one that clings to me, and I give my dogs a good home… I understand a why dogs pant, which is why I thought it would be nice to have him cool off, Like I said, 16 years experience I picked up a few things…

and Mas1st, you were extremely rude… you talked to me like I was an idoit, which I am not… btw, the crate works with my other dogs, so there goes your little theory

yeah I have school comming, like I said before it was only recently, he is normally a really good sleeper and listens well. I was asking for suggestions not someone to insult my intelligence

first I am not 16, I am 21…I have had dogs for 16 years

TeeJay- I have crated him less, and he still won’t sleep, I take him out all the time, let him run around in the yard and he is constantly playing with out other dogs, constantly running… I have noticed a slight weight gain… I think I will contact our vet. Thank you for your help

everyone else that was just plain rude or obnoxious….screw you, you dont care to know the whole story you never will know the whole story, the fact that you had to fight with me about the things I have tried proves that you have nothing better to do than complain

thanks again to the people that were actually helpful
