How can I sell my Homemade Salsa?
I make the best homemade salsa in Texas. I grow my own tomatoes, garlic, onions, jalapenos, cilantro, etc. Everything is made from scratch. All of my friends and family constantly ask for it. They tell me I should sell it…. But how? Does anyone know about how to go about doing something like this? Marketing, Licensing, FDA?, Preservatives? Any feedback would be great. Thank you
Patrick Boyce Davis

i’m not sure.
but maybe you should start out small.
go to smaller shops or family owned restaurants and see if they will buy it from you or use it somehow.
You can start by going on the FDAs website to research what you may need.. but I don’t see why you can’t start by selling things at a local farmer’s market… give out free samples… see where things go from there. There are recipe programs online that you can download to type in your ingredients/recipes and they tell you calorie content, etc.. i forgot the names of them sorry. If you have the correct labeling I’m sure you can sell it to local shops and start from there.
I think you should open a salsa stand first, or something like that :D. Everyone loves some good salsa. Just to test it and see if other ppl outside of the fam like it.
lol i sure do hope your salsa hits big time. all the main brands kinda suck in my opinion lol. The farmer’s market is a great idea BTW.
you should let me taste it first so i know it’s good enough for other people to eat. lol jk.
but i agree with the farmer’s market thing. you don’t have to label it i think just pass it out and make sure you have a solid consumer base.
now i want some nachos and slaso or guacamole….
I also have a great recipe for my salsa, i live near Heinz and i am going to see if the can mass produce from my recipe and buy a few 100 cases and go from there!
I think you are just one of those people that take comments literally. You know like when people have a horrible haircut or they are wearing a horrible piece of clothing and everyone says “ooohh that looks good” and they are dying laughing inside. Yep I think that is what your family is doing before they run outside and spit it out like a rotten piece of lizard fat. Keep your day job!!
Let me know how you fared, I too, have a great salsa recipe that my family insists that I sell, but I don’t know the first thing to do….????
hey please guide me how can i sell my stuff online but free of cost?
Hi Patrick, I hope you have found a way to market your Salsa. I’m trying to find my niche and I also have a great Salsa recipe that I would like to get out there. I often thought of the Farmers Market and craft shows which are very popular in my area. My main concern is budgeting and how to incorporate the cost of everything into the price of the product.
Anyway, I don’t have answers for you but I wish you the best of luck. It would be nice to hear that you have attained your goal.
So what was your outcome in your search for your homemade salsa.???
Hi Patrick, I was looking on line to see how I go about marketing my salsa and stubbled on youe weg page. I have done some craft shows and sell to co-workers but I want to take it to the next level. Good luck with your salsa. Melodie
Doesn’t everyone have a great salsa recipe? I too am encouraged to sell my salsa. So, finally I have started my quest. I started with the county, who sent me to the state and the state sent me an application. The process is huge here in California. I am going to pursue it. Call your county health department to see where to start. I simply told them my intention and they were helpful. Good luck.
well im tryin to put my own shop of salsa but i alredey have all the stores full in my city but how can i sell more
well i sell my own salsa too but i just dont know how to make it bigger i sell it in el paso tx and all the stores he have it for sale but i still what it to keep on growing can u help
Do you have a website? Facebook? or Twitter? These are great tools to promote your products and brand. Do you have your company’s name trademarked? Alos have you formed a LLC, ect. You should check out local gas stations. They may be interested in selling your salsa. I agree with above comments about Farmers markets and such; people go there with the intention of purchasing something, why not your salsa!
i do have all the perments and also the bar codes for them i have the perments for TX , NM, AZ, THE name of my brand is La Cosecha i would thank you if there is anything you could help me with … hope to hear from you soon ..
well im not sayin that my salsa is the best but it does teaste GOOD . would love to send a tester out to all the Cosecha fans out there. hpoe to hear soon and thanks for the your updates..
I would make several batch and start selling them at street fairs and festivals. This would give you instant feedback on your product and recipe. I would also check out the site startafoodbusiness.com
I’m really trying to stat my own salsa business but I have no idea how . And first of all no name for it .My name is Lori and I live in AZ. But I want the name to catchy.

No, no, no….I make the best salsa in Texas!!
Ha ha. I think everybody makes the best salsa including me.
I had a lot of success at our local farmers market. It was a lot
of work & we quit after the first year due to being retired & very
busy & traveling & other fun things. We just don’t want to work
anymore. However, our son has taken on the endeavor & is being
very successful. He does ask me for advice & input. Which is easier
than actual work.
Good luck to everyone. I hope & pray your dreams come true!!!
I also want to sell my salsa. Every person who has tasted it, says it is great. Do I need a license to sell at the farmer’s market? Is it expensive to get a license to sell in the stores or online? Thank you. I just know, everyone, I mean, everyone says I should sell it. Thank you for your help.
Congrats Eric!! I just read your post & have seen your products at HEB stores in San Antonio! You did it!! I want to start selling fresh salsa in farmer’s markets.
