A moral challenge.
Okay, more of a riddle.
Let’s assume you’re a guy crazily in love with a woman named Sarah. You are really good friends, you love her, and you recently learned she likes you very much, but neither of you ever told the other. You just learned this, and also that she’s leaving the country tonight, or tomorrow morning for a really long time, and only you could make her stay, by admitting you love her. She is currently in a cottage in the woods far away from town with her family, and you drive there on your bike, intended that you will finally talk to her. She is there with her father, and her brother who is a surgeon. When you arrive you have the following situation. She just left 2 minutes ago, on foot, to the nearby village, where she’ll take a bus to the airport, the bus leaves in half an hour. But her dad just had a heart attack, or stroke, or whatever, he needs to be urgently taken to the hospital. Her brother must go also to the hospital, to operate your mutual best friend who is dying, who just had an accident, he’s the only one who can do it, he has just been noticed. You have no cellphone, neither does she, there’s no other phone in the cottage, the battery of the brother’s phone had just died. They have no car, your bike is the only fast way of transport, but it can transport only two persons. What would you do?
If you take the doctor to the hospital, he’ll save the life of your best friend ,you will actually, but his father’s life will be lost, and you’ll also lose the love of your life, this was your last chance with her.
If you take the father to the hospital, you’ll still lose Sarah, and your best friend will die too.
Or you could catch up with Sarah, but those 20 or so minutes which you need to find her, means that her father and that patient of her brother, your best friend will die.
What would you choose?

Where were you?

Save the brother’s patient. You can still keep in contact with Sarah, and the father is an old man, he’s lived his life. If the bro’s patient dies, he’ll be filled with guilt.

But if his own father dies, he’ll be still filled with guilt. and so would be you, it’s the father of the one you love after all, and will you have a chance with Sarah, if she knows you didn’t save her father? Just playing devil’s advocate.
Good point. I stand by what I said before, though. Letting a patient die is against the Hippocratic Oath.
Get her brother to the hospital - then your mate is saved - Sarah’s dad dies and you hook up with her at the funeral.
Give your bike to the doctor. The doctor can take the father to the hospital where both lives can be saved. Sarah is carrying suitcases with her, so in all likelihood is moving slowly (or at least slower than you can move). Run like hell to catch up with her. Wala! The day is saved. You’ll get your bike back later, along with the gratitude of a great number of people…. including Sarah, for helping to save her father.
Exactly :)) I like mind-twisters like this, does anyone know something similar?

Good idea! But this would never happen to me, because I do not like women who’s names start with S.
Take a car and drive both to the hospital, and then call Sarah. She’ll come back, and then you will be well laid. :P

Hmm… That’s a good idea but I can’t run very fast.

That’s true. I’d probably do what you did then go out with her sister. Hey! That would make us brothers-in-laws! Awesome!

How does the brother carry the father on his bike?

With difficulty for certain. I assume it’s a “motorbike” (we were told it’s seat is large enough for 2) so the father sits in front, so the doc can help support him on the bike, and still operate the bike.

Good luck, lol.
This is interesting and a lot to think about. I am studying to be a nurse so I think about things like this sometimes.

most health care places do want nurses to live up to the oath
