How to optimize your vehicle’s milage
This write up pretty much applies to EVERYONE viewing this article.Whether you want to consume less fuel for the environment’s sake (you really believe in the Peak Oil debate) or for your own personal reasons (you want to cut the costs of gasoline), consuming less gasoline will benefit everyone (except maybe OPEC =D). The following tips are many ways you can help improve your vehicle’s fuel consumption: 1) Maintain your vehicle at the proper service intervals. This will ensure your car is running as efficient as possible. Things such as dirty air filters, fouled spark plugs, and old fuel filters can drastically increase the car’s fuel CONSUMPTION. Refer to your vehicle’s Owner’s Manual and replace accordingly.2) Drive at the speed limit. The optimum speed to drive for most cars is actually ~55 MPH. Aerodynamic drag increases exponentially as your speed increases so avoid driving 80 MPH on the highway. Even staying closer to 65 MPH will help.3) Avoid hard braking and fast acceleration. Easing on the accelerator to speed up and braking gently will help increase fuel efficiency.4) Keep tires properly inflated. If tires are underinflated, this will hurt your vehicle’s MPG. Fill it up to the tire manufacturer’s specs found on the sidewall of your tires.5) Keep your windows and sunroofs closed while driving. Keeping them open will increase drag and decrease fuel economy.6) Use cruise control whenever you can.7) Keep your car as light as possible. Don’t leave anything heavy in there if you don’t have to. More stuff = more load, so it takes more power to move your car… which means it uses up more fuel.8) Avoid long idles and drive throughs. Self explanitory.9) Do not use A/C. Air conditioning uses a compressor that robs power from your engine and creates more load for the engine which leads to of course, less MPG.By following these steps, you should optimize your vehicle’s fuel consumption which in the end leads to more money in your pocket!
