Yeh it is courteous to let the referees know first. Obviously its even more important to let your current employer know that you’re thinking of leaving BEFORE doing anything else.

Thanks 045001. I think the person most likely to be in a position to give references is actually ill from work currently anyway, which was why I was thinking if you could just put them down anyway without saying..

if you know them well i’m sure they wouldn’t mind. they’ll just get a phonecall from your new employer who will ask a few questions about you.

Sadly I do not know them in that way. It is just a supermarket so I am sure it happens all the time since people are always coming and going.

Luckily one of my references can be from the college I just finished since I have only had one employer so far. I think I will have to bug them about it tomorrow..see if I could convince them to make it worth my while to stay hehe. Thanks for the advice though 045001! :D

Job application forms and references.
Hello everyone. I have a quick question, when the form asks for details of references, should you ask the person who you want to act as the reference first?

I currently have a part time job and not exactly sure who the reference should be and whether you should tell them, seeing that it would mean quitting there..

Thanks!
