This is the method I used. It’s a bit technical, but not that hard if you follow my instructions.
First, you’ll need something sharp like scissors or a knife.
Cut away the plastic that encases the web cam.
Place that in the recycle bin.
Remove the web cam, instructions, cables and software and place them on your desk.
Do not read the instructions that came with your web cam. Throw them away.
Remove the CD that came in the package from its sleeve.
Place it on your desk, on the right side if you are right handed, on the left if you are left handed.
Brew a pot of coffee or tea (this installation takes awhile).
Pour yourself a cup.
Place the cup on top of the CD so that you don’t scorch your desk.
Next, take the cables and remove the twist-tie.
The cables will be too long. With the scissors or knife, cut out an 8-10-inch length of cable from the center, being careful not to cut too close to the connectors.
Spice the remaining ends together and wrap electrical tape around it to prevent it from shorting out (or use a wire nut if you have it).
Finish your coffee or tea.
Now this is the difficult part. Take the webcam out to your driveway.
Place it behind the front wheel of your car.
Get in the car.
Start the engine.
Back up three feet.
Drive forward three feet.
Repeat those last two steps ten times.
Turn off the engine.
Get out of the car.
Gather the pieces of your webcam and find the appropriate receptacle for waste removal.
Pour your second cup.
You may now discard the splice cable, as it is no longer useful and may not work anyway.
The smaller piece of cable, the part you cut out, may be used as a bookmark.
Keep the CD coaster until you buy a ceramic one.
