Fighting between Russia and Georgia
Obama thinks the U.N. Security Council should pass a resolution calling for an immediate end to the violence.
McCain believes NATO should convene an emergency session to demand a cease-fire.
Which plan do you think is better?

Fighting between Russia and Georgia
Obama thinks the U.N. Security Council should pass a resolution calling for an immediate end to the violence.
McCain believes NATO’s should convene an emergency session to demand a cease-fire.
Which plan do you think is better?
I like NATO more then the U.N., but doing both sounds best….
mmmm do both. might get done quicker
the UN has better ties with russia, so as far as diplomatic attempts that’s the best option. unfortunately, putin and russia in general are belligerent and unfeeling so diplomacy won’t help worth a ****. we need to let them sort it out, though. otherwise it’s freaking WWIII + nukes. surprisingly enough, “war hero” mccain hasn’t suggested we bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb russia yet. amazing.
Well does it bother anyone to know that Russia has permanent veto power over the U.N. Security Council? How could Obama’s plan ever work, Russia would have to vote against itself in order for the U.N. Security Council to pass a resolution calling for an immediate end to the violence?
Did Obama simply misspeak (several times) or does he not understand how the UN works?
Hmmm… interesting, maybe obama just does not understand how it all works.
always the use of the UN is the correct way.
NATO is a group of nations who are trying to get their way against another
nation which is not part of NATO.
Russia is part of the UN.

Russia is part of the UN.
And this is why Obama has such a following; some people need to be spoon feed how the UN and the world works.
Spiratec9 yes, your right Russia is part of the UN. In fact Russia has a permanent seat on the security counsel and can “veto” any measure brought before the counsel.
So Obama’s plan to have the Security Council “pass” a resolution calling for an immediate end to the violence could never possibly work.
It could never possibly work because Russia would have to vote positively on a resolution calling for an immediate end to violence that they them selves are involved in.
First if you are nave enough to believe Russia would vote positively on a resolution calling for itself to end the violence it created. Then wouldn’t Russia simply end the violence it created? Why the need for them to vote to stop them selves? Doesn’t make much sense does it.
Second, in realty Russia would not vote positively and since it has veto power the measure would be vetoed and would die. It doesn’t make much sense to call for measure that has no possible way of passing.
How could that possibly be the correct Corse of action? It would result in nothing.
Yes NATO is a group of nations who are trying to get their way against Russia. In fact power base wise NATO “”"is”"” the Security Council of the UN minus Russia and China.
In this case, because it involves Russia, going to NATO and creating a demand for a cease-fire is analogues to going to the Security Council and passing a resolution calling for an immediate end to the violence, but with out giving Russia a vote in the matter, who once again are the people causing the violence.
The only one who doesn’t get a vote with this plan is China, who would have voted positively anyway on any measure. In fact they would have preferred this because they wouldn’t need to chose sides and so pissing off one of the people they are trying to buddy up with.
So for the most part Obama and McCain’s plain are exactly the same. Except Obama’s plan would give Russia the veto power over the plan.
Do you understand Obama’s mistake now?
I do not like neither, obama nor mccain… Im at lost at who to vote for :(

Vote for Mickey Mouse. He wouldn’t make that bad of a president.

Oh a lot of people run for president every 4 years. It’s not that hard to get your name on a ballet. You have a lot more choices then just three.
But only Obama or McCain will win. Nadar will just help McCain

Have all elections before president clinton been like this (i dont count bush)? I never paid attention to elections because i was a little child. I “thought” clinton was the best president but i found out he was not. In fact i dont think we ever had a “good” president. Today presidential elections all seem like a joke to me…. They tell us to take it seriously but in reality they know good and darn well they dont want us to pay attention to politics because then the PEOPLE will actually realize we dont really have a voice, which will cause us to want change. And i dont think the gov’t wants us to fight for things pertaining to us…
I could be wrong (just saying that in advance before people jump down my throat)
Why don’t you count Bush?
Its all how you measure greatness, there have been some great presidents who helped shape the country we live in and the world for the better. Its true they all had their down sides and their scandals too however.
The problem with today is that the camera is always watching, so these people who run for office need to be perfect supper humans or else it will be caught on camera and run on the news 24/7. People aren’t perfect, not even presidents.
Some great presidents where:
Washington
Lincoln
FDR
Reagan
These men all had their problems but they accomplished great things.
This is why Presidents Clinton and Bush haven’t had it so easy. As far as presidents go these two men weren’t all that bad there have been much much worse and there have been people who didn’t do a thing. But these two men where presidents in an age where all their dirty laundry was aired for the world to see during prime time. They have it much harder then FDR and Washington in that regard.
Neither.

Why is this?
Russia, Israel, USA all tough complicated relationships.
I would amaze myself if I had the solutions.
Sorry Da-11.
What does Israel have to do with this incident?
Ah:) That’s the question.
