I’m fine with banning it in public indoor places - the right to act as one chooses does not include the right to put others into unjustifiable health risk. However, outdoors it’s tougher to support a ban on smoking and the government or society at large should have no authority whatsoever to tell me what I do in my own home.

Indoor public places I can just about cope with. No way should it be banned in public.

No way. There would be some serious rioting over that. And people would be doing it anyway. THEN we’d be wasting more of our tax dollars to deal with people breaking that law instead of using it towards something like…. oh I don’t know…. our childrens’ educations? Or arresting other, more serious criminals?

It would be a horrible waste of manpower, tax dollars and time over something really petty. There’s bigger issues than smoking we should be dealing with.

no, it shouldn’t. however, if someone near the subject has expressed that they are not comfortable with the smoke, the smoker shall either put it off or move away, that’s just common sense.

It’s just another gov’t big brother ploy…they know what’s best and soon enough people stop thinking. No smoking in public? What’s next? No scratching in public? Why not? Well some people find it offensive! Come to Canada, we’re so bloody politically correct you can’t sneeze here or say “merry christmas” without someone becoming indignant.

~end rant~
lol

mmm. interesting topic we have here… i don’t smoke so why should i say that smoking should be illegal. unless smoking effects me in the long run. let people take the drug. anyway, do you really think the government will make smoking illegal? think, will they really dump all that money?

Good point Sarah. The gov’t makes a killign on taxing things like that. I know where I live we have tons of “sin taxes.” Booze, cigarattes, anything like that. Which is funny because most politicians I know either chain smoke, or are alcoholics.
