Money help: In the past 24months due to the economy and some foolish mistakes, my family lost our home and all our monies. - Help.com

In the past 24months due to the economy and some foolish mistakes, my family lost our home and all our monies.

We are trying to start over, things are getting better very slowly.

We need to file a Chapter #7 bankruptcy, we cannot afford the lawyers fees
to do so.

Can this be done without a lawyer.

Thank you

Apparently you use to be able to but can’t anymore.
This is from the following link

“Sorry You Can No Longer File Bankruptcy Without A Lawyer.
In October 2005 Congress passed a new law. This new law requires you to go to counseling before you can file. If you would like more information about the new bankruptcy laws please join our mailing list below.”

as far as i know, its possible to get a company to force you into bankruptcy, but very difficult, as companies don’t like losing money, and are likely to only do it if they think its the only way of getting anything…

might be worth looking at…

Often anything a lawyer can do an individual can do but it takes a lot of reading and research.

Hrm, there is not much pro bona for a lawyer in a Ch #7 bankrupcy case, either…

But isn’t it possible to get as much “councelling” through social welfare, as is needed to comply with the 2005 law?
