Why people joke about you.

Its just like the movies, EVERYONE makes fun of Star Wars and Indiana Jones and big movies like that, because they are popular. So if you’re usually the butt of you’re friends and family’s jokes, don’t sweat it, it’s just because they think you are worth joking about.

I thought this might help people who might have a problem taking a joke, like i used to.

Are you serious?! It’s all about intent and context - friends may joke about with you, but it’s unlikely to be cruel or hurtful. Seriously, if you are the butt of people’s jokes and they are making fun of you, it’s highly unlikely they like you. When I was at high school, several people delighted in making my life hell by doing exactly what you say, and they were definitely NOT my friends.

better? I was mostly talking about friends anyways. people like the ones you’re talking about aren’t making jokes, they’re just idiots.

I had problems with people “making my life hell” in elementary and middle school, not so much in high school. I just learned to ignore them. I also had problems keeping friends when I was young because I couldn’t take a joke, I always thought they were just being mean, so I thouight this might help people with that.

Yeah, I think it will! This is kinda getting off topic, but in my case, I never had a problem taking a joke when it is just that, and I did and do have good friends, but what I suffered through school was pretty much systematic abuse. Plus, I have a long history of clinical depression which makes it pretty difficult to stand up for yourself or believe that what people saying isn’t in some way true and justified, even when it clearly isn’t.

The best humour is self directed and self deprecating. That way, no one takes offense.
