whatever the word is i always exchange the first letter of the word.
you get a lot of goofy results but it helps get me creative,

i am afraid that is the extent of the advice i have as i can not write poetry worth crap…

:(

I used to like writing poetry too…..whenever I couldnt think of a word that rymed with some thing else I would go through each letter of the alphabet and try to find a word. This sounds stupid but it worked for me. Heres an example………..If I had the word flower I would try to use a different letter like p and get power or s and get shower…..It all depends on what word fits into what you are writing about.

Think of the word that you want to rhyme with and then go through the alphabet in your head, or write it down if you have to, and exchange the beggining for it to see what you come up with. most arent real words but eventually you’ll find something.

also, if thats to much of a pain in the ***, i’m pretty sure there’s an actual book, like a dictionary, that has common words and lists all the words they rhyme with. not sure what its called, i would try googleing it.

If you wanna rhyme make sure it makes sense. This may seem obvious but, Rhyme the last syllables. or the last three letters of a word.

They sell rhyming dictionaries all over. Maybe you should buy one, They help a lot.

I love writing poems too, sometimes when I get stuck I go here. http://www.rhymezone.com/
It works wonderfully, but I would suggest just using your own knowledge and only using this as a last resort…
When writing a poem to express yourself it must truly come from the heart. With as little help from sites as possible.
I find good inspiration can come from reading other peoples poetry, there is a lot posted on this site and when reading it you may be able to get the inspiration needed to write one (or many) of your own.

This definitely won’t help you but….

Some of the best poems I’ve read don’t rhyme or have unusual formats like…only the first line of the stanza and the last line of the stanza rhyme.
