Is the only outlet to financical success obtaining a college degree?

I am not convinced that the only way to make money includes obtaining a college degree.

Currently attending college now, I am contemplating steping out of the adademic realm, at least for a little while, to expolore alternative options.

Is college really necessary?

Although making a living may require some form of training– or none at all– what kind of possibities exist for those who believe a college degree is not the only answer to surviving today?

What kind of jobs are available to people who do not complete college, honestly?

How slim is the possibility of making it big (or at least making it decent) without a collegeĀ degree?

It depends a lot on wether the industry cares about results or degrees. A degree can be a very solid “foot in the door” so to speak. But a solid accomplishment can be just as well.

As a personalized example, I went to a school and got a BS in web design — cost me over 70k. Here’s the rub, if I had spent that 3 years and cash on developing a major internet portal that would have been just as valuable as the degree I got.

There are a lot of industries you can get into by substituting a degree for talent. Ask people in the industry you’re interested in to find out what the limits are.

About 50 or so years ago someone could get a decent job without finishing high school. Then high school became a prerequisite for a good job and only professionals went to college. Now with so many college graduates its almost a requirement to get a college degree. In actuality, you learn how to do your job on the job. College is not necessary in terms of training. However, when you apply for a job a college grad is going to get the job before a non-college grad. And right now, you want every advantage you can get.

The college grad is much more likely to get a bank loan for a start up too. Stay in college, even if you go to night school.

Making it decent is easy, if you’re smart.

If you know what kind of job you want, you also know what college degree it requires. Until you know what you want in life (my friend decided to be a florist and went to CC to learn what she needed to know), then feel free to stay out of college and work at a supermarket. (More healthy than a fast food resturaunt.)

Yeah, you need teh college. But if you don;t know what kind yet, either start working on your General Education requirements or just leave it until later.

No, but it is the best bet.
