The Eagle and the Wolf……
The wind howls as the Eagle flies
Surveying all below, watching….waiting
For the Wolf to continue his arduous journey.
As he emerges from the hidden rocks
He begins to climb to their highest peak, looks
Into the distance, he cries as though announcing
His impending arrival, glancing up he sees
His travelling companion, silent now looking on,
To his task ahead, he is not alone, so far…..yet……
The night is clear, its moon full and bright
Lighting his weary way. Still the Eagle flies
Watching his onward bound friend, knowing
The end is near, he perches himself on a rock
Nearby, the Wolf knows it is time, he rests.
A patch of moonlight finds his weary bones
as he slouches to the ground, now almost
spent with a lifetime of wandering, soon
yes soon it will be time. He will take his place
to nurture a human soul through a lifetime,
to protect them from the evils that lurk.
He closes his eyes as the moon disappears
behind a cloud, the Eagle knows and lets out
a piercing screeching squawk for the Wolf
Is no more.
The Eagle watches as a white light engulfs
The Wolf, his spirit raises from the spent
Body and disappears into the darkness,
into the night where the moon is full.
As the Eagle once more glances at the empty
Body, he knows his job is done and continues on.
And in the dead of night when the moon is
full, hear the cries of a Wolf…..a lonely Wolf
Along on his journey….and that of the Eagle
As he guides yet another lonely Wolf to his Destiny….
