ah, the “black hole radiation”.
Here’s the deal
There’s a bunch of people (probably the same people telling us global warming will kill us all - tomorrow) going around sensationalizing the idea that the LHC could create a black hole that could absorb the world and kill us all.
Such a black hole, with such little mass to start it off (what would be referred to as a micro black hole… or something like that) would be subject to hawking radiation (which is a controversial theory, and many deny that it exists, but it seems to stand up to scrutiny but then again we may just not to be able to scrutinize it thoroughly enough, but I digress)
anywya, hawking radiation implies that a micro black hole would simply dissipate into nothingness. Even if hawking was wrong about the radiation thing, it’s still unlikely that that particular micro black hole would be able to absorb enough mass quickly enough or with enough force to grow as fast as it would still break down (even without hawking radiation).
now let’s pretend the black hole forms, and doesn’t disappear. just for a second.
so what?
a black holes “sucking” ability is based on its’ overall mass, right?
and when you’re talking about the LHC, you’re talking about subatomic particles with VIRTUALLY no mass!
So you’re realistically talking about a black hole smaller than an atom with very little ability, if any at all, to pull anything in to it.
We could build a theme park around it.

If you check our Berkeley you HAVE to see Prof. Muller’s “Physics for Future Presidents” course. It’s a bit low-tier, but MAN, is he a good educator. Very entertaining.
Crapshit. I just realized i forgot to mention the Higgs particle.
It’s the only particle predicted by the standard model I mentioned before that we haven’t seen before.
The Higs particle, which is a boson.. or was it fermion….

anyway, the Higgs Boson gives mass to a bunch of otherwise massless subatomic particles when organized into matter.
Or something like that…… I think I should go read something on it now.
