friends help: This is a personal injury insurance question. - Help.com

This is a personal injury insurance question.

My friend’s teenaged daughter was one of four passengers in a car driven by her classmate when the driver lost control. It was a single vehicle accident and there were no serious injuries but my friend’s daughter’s injuries will cost over $10,000 US. Who should my friend call to get the medical bills paid? He doesn’t want to get the run-around from the driver’s insurance and attorneys typically take 1/3 off the settlement. No one is out to make any money off of this; just get the bills paid. Please don’t turn this into something ugly with your responses. I appreciate your sincere help.

I will be walking my dog so please forgive delayed responses to any questions you might have.

Thanks much!

Wouldn’t her own medical insurance cover the bills?

What if she didn’t have medical insurance?

The driver was found legally at fault (a police report was filed because the car flipped several times and everyone involved was under 18.) Auto insurance with a bodily harm clause is mandated in their state.

As I said, no one’s trying to get rich. My friend would rather go through her car insurance than his own HMO. He is a single father of two and his resources are limited. Using his own insurance will cost him numerous out of pocket expenses including deductables, copays, and possibly a percentage of the total (I don’t know how much his coverage includes. Nor do I know whether his premium will go up but it’s not unheard of.)

So my question is, in order to get her auto insurance policy to cover the medical bills, who does he contact? Her parents? The auto insurance company? An attorney? His own medical or auto insurance companies to represent him? He’s a really soft spoken guy and doesn’t want a legal mess or monetary profit but he doesn’t know what to do and asked me… I don’t know what to tell him.

Thanks for any positive suggestions anyone has.

he needs to contact that insurance company.. they have all the answers that you are looking for…

also… i would contact a representative through legal aid society… they have free attorneys for things of this sort..
