Small fillings should not hurt,or should hurt very little. The gums will most likely be numbed w/a local anasthetic cream on a Q-Tip .You will then be given a shot/shots of local anasthetic , witch might sting a little bit.Sometimes if fillings are very small numbing shots are not needed, but this is exception, and not the rule.Tooth/teeth will then be drilled and filled. Fillings will then be checked to make sure they are proper and level so your bite will not be affected. You mouth/lip area will be numb for a while-you may have a little extra sensitivity in treated teeth and /or the area may feel a little “odd” for the rest of today, but this should go away pretty quickly.

i had 3 fillings done about 11 or 12 years ago, been awhile, but I remember it didn’t hurt at all. A little uncomfortable, but not painful.

For shallow fillings, I recommend forgoing the Novacaine, as the effects of that are far worse than the actual filling process….

I have to go get a filling today and well… as i remember it from before.. super uncomfortable and well.. the only thing that hurts is the needle for the novacaine lasts about 10 seconds then the drilling is irritating+ it can scare you when they take it out. but close your eyes and just dont look!
