A “Bloody battle” is one with a high casualty rate on both sides; a “Decisive battle”, as in “The decisive battle of the civil war,” is the battle in which the tide of the war is turned for the last time - after Gettysburg, the south was continuously in retreat, making Gettysburg the decisive battle of the war.
