I’m not confident in taking AP English 11 but my parents won’t let me drop it
This is the first time I’m taking a AP class and I’m not fully confident in my abilities to take it. I was originally suppose to take regular English 11 but due to my atrocious GPA, my parents forced me to take AP**.
I won’t mention my current GPA, but I calculated that if I get all straight A’s for the next 2 years, I’ll have a overall GPA of 3.6; not nearly enough for most colleges. If I don’t take AP, then it’ll probably be lower. But if I DO take AP and fail or do badly, then it’ll be even lower then what I would have gotten had I taken regular English. So you can kind of see where my dilemma is now…
My parents aren’t the type to reason with (as I’ve already tried on numerous occasions). **In case your wondering, I’m the “Has potential but doesn’t fully utilize it” type of student. My parents know this very well but I think they’re overestimating my abilities. You may also be asking/saying “Well if you know it, then start utilizing it!” Well the problem with that is the class itself. I’ve heard many horror stories about AP English 11 and all it’s difficulties. And these are from very good sources. Right off the bat, I can name 3 people (whom I know very well) that went to Berkley, MIT, and Wellesley College and all 3 of them told me the same thing on AP English 11.
So the short and sweet version is; My parents can’t be reasoned with as I have already tried and failed on numerous occasions and I’m not fully confident in taking the class. If they learn I secretly dropped out of it, then they’ll beat me till I’m all meat. What should I do?
