school help: My brother is 18, has no job, no driver’s license, doesn’t - Help.com

My brother is 18, has no job, no driver’s license,

doesn’t take responsibility for anything, is struggling to graduate, and is a complete frustration to everyone. I need help in motivating him to focus on completing school and getting a job. He’s close on the school part and I don’t think it will be a problem much longer, the other part is the job. I’ve tried sharing my experience with needing money and any argument from my experiences I could think of. I’ve tried ‘guilting’ him into doing it to help out our mom and just nothing seems to work. He spends most of his time gaming and there’s no way for my mom to take that away because she’s often at work or school and can’t just eliminate internet because that’s where he does his school work.

Any advice would be appreciated, I’d really like to help my mom out on this one by getting him to take this serious.

Try getting a parental block with a ton of random numbers as the password, write it down somewhere and give it to him when he finishes his shifts, change the lock daily.

With teh gaming is it like game systems? because you could easily go down to a store and buy a combination breifcase or safe to put them in as well, unlocking it for him after he returns from his shifts.

You could even try only giving him one each day, then when he does his job/school work extra good give him both.

It sounds very childish I know, but I’m sure he would thank you, (in the long run) and your mother would thank you.

Goodluck!
