computer help: I need help backing up video files on my computer. - Help.com

I need help backing up video files on my computer.

My hard drive is filling up fast from my videos that I import from my camera and website. I’ve thought about burning them to some DVDs but that would take ages…anyone had this problem yet? Is there a a fast way to keep my video files in their high definition quality and still back them up onto a different computer? thanks for the help.

install another hard drive in your computer, you can get external USB drives these days for pretty cheap, or if you know how to install it yourself, get a IDE hard drive for storage. they arent as fast as SATA and other things out today but they are cheaper, and if your using it just for file storage it doesnt have to be fast.

2 hard drives? how much video do you have???

ok - as for options, external HDD’s (250gigs and up!) cost about 50quid for a 250gig drive…

Tape drives - they cost a bit though… really for backup purposes, not storage

burning to DVD is the most cost-effective option…

but if you want the best utillity, go for a external HDD

oh, or a new hard drive - i hear you can get terabyte drives now - 1tb = 1000gigs, at a cost of 80-100 quid! (internal though)

I’m with SlightlyUnique; I have about 2 Terabytes backed up on external drives. Plug ‘em into the USB port, you’re good to go. Unplug ‘em, and they’re safe from any accidental damage from power surges and virus attack, and you can tuck ‘em under your arm and take ‘em anywhere.

The price is dropping like a stone - you can grab a 500M ext in Amerikay for about 100 bucks, with further savings expected around Christmas during the rush sales.
