Everybody has to believe in Something, James; and a lot of people feel threatened by anything that (perceptually) opposes their belief. Science and Religion; there was a time when people like Galileo had a wonderful time with contemporary Christians.
Islam, Judiasm and Christianity are all offshoots from the same religion, and they seem hell-bent on bloodletting each other.
I’m with you - I have no doubts in my faith. But go easy on the folks on either side of the fence that go all rabid. They’re scared they’re wrong.
Sounds very interesting James.

Some stuff happened in my life and.. i kinda hit a dull point in my motivation to do much.. still kinda there. ..lol.. maybe i should also start feeding my own mind and testing my own beliefs again.
My lowest point is where I started to do it too.

I’m not saying go out with pitchforks and torches and raid the scientists or religious folks. I’m saying maybe try testing what you know. Get both sides. All sides. It’s facinating. And I think in the end everyone can benifit in some way, shape or form. Maybe your views stay the same. I don’t know. But what I do know is that there are a lot of people out there that haven’t tested the waters. And with a free mind and non-judgemental mindset it’s a world full of surprises.
True that, J, A; the trick is opening those eyes. I don’t think even Criss Angel has managed that one yet. ~grin~

Yes - for one who knows they have found truth - there is no since tring to convince others of it. for they themselve know how they came accross it - and it was not by any prodding of another person or persuasive words. They saught it. And eventually they found it. And they are content in that, confident of it and ready to speak of it if asked, and always living it - but never demanding it.
Exactly where I’m coming from. Exactly.

ive also been to talks where things from the bible have been proven to be absolutely impossible to have ever happened, and where the things the bible mentions on the sly, such as the incest, slavery and abuse that happened in biblical times are highlighted.
its all just a matter of perspective, and people choose which way they want to see it.
nothing is false or true. its just what you think is real.
Perhaps I haven’t made myself clear. Or maybe I have and you should read what I said again.
I’m not sure if you are trying to tell me that I have been brainwashed or what, but simply because I’ve began to change my way of thinking does not mean I’ve been brainwashed.
I’m a very analytical person. It’s just who I am. Who I have always been. I don’t take that comment very nicely. Although there is truth in what you said, about that would be a vulnerable time, it was simply the time I started looking. NOT the time I started believing.
Hmm I know Im quite a bit late but I think its good your faith only heightens your appreciation for science and that for you the two can coincide. Many of my fellow atheists think that moderates pose a threat to rational thinking despite their more lenient standpoint however I think its a good thing. I would be curious to see what proofs were given to you, and I wont lie… I am a little skeptical but I am skeptical of all new things i hear, If you had any examples I could look up I’d be interested to see em. Im actually in the process, slow as it is, of trying to read the bible so… Im kinda trying to understand religion a bit and become more knowledgeable on christianity as its always been an interesting subject to me given that I have fundamentalist relatives. But yeah, if you have any links or wanna tell about these scientific verifications im very interested! :)

Sure I’ll scoop some things up for you as soon as I get the chance. :)

First of all, your post is still quoted above by me. Second of all, this comment -

seems very arrogant. I wasn’t one of them, but maybe other people pointed the last post out for a reason?
I guess at that point it is a matter of interpretation. I’m sorry you had such a negative experience. And truth is everyone, whether it be the church or the modern day world, they all have their times of blinding people.
All I said in my post was that I found some truths in some of the things they say and some of the things the bible says. I’m not spouting that I believe it all. I’m not walking around promoting anything. But I found truth in it, as well as modern science and other such things. That is all I said. No room for argument. So please avoid starting one.
I see I’m pretty late, but I’d like to here more of your view on this subject. It was actually quite interesting to read, and I always love acclaiming new knowledge. =]

A recent discovery of mine.
Since I know this is a touchy subject I won’t be asking for anyones seperate opinions on this, but rather share what I’ve learned and discovered on my own.
I’ve been listening to speakers about religion and the applications of science lately. I used to be the type that was a believer in a greater power but also believed that science would sooner or later be able to prove everything. Well, after listening to these speakers I have a renewed faith. Let me share why.
For so long I’ve noticed how scientists and others who don’t believe in a God seem to do everything in their power to prove their isn’t one. Almost like an attack on religion. I noticed this even when I myself wasn’t a strong believer. But there are, and I think you might be surprised, many famous scientists and leaders who made numerous quotes shunning religion. It’s always been something that stood out to me. But all of these speakers have done one thing that facinates me. They actually took science and used it to fully credit IT AND religion. They actually took word for word parts of the bible, and used science to show that it’s true. And I’m not talking about men walking on water or anything like that. I’m talking about the divine balance of the world and everything around it. They didn’t attack science at all, but fully credited it where the credit was due. It was very interesting to me.
Now I know things like creationism and evolution and things like that are always biased discussions. No matter who is talking. I’m not going to share everything that was said and exactly why I believe it. But I did want to share with you that even though you may think yourself not capable of a religious though, feeling or background, it is possible for everyone. And this is just one of the things that has help make my life even more great. Look into it, not for my sake or your families, but for your own. You might be surprised. And even though no one expects you to believe every word in the bible, it never hurts to hear both sides. I’m a scientific person with a new view on things. My respect and understanding of science has only gotten stronger with the faith I’ve gained.
Think about it, give it a shot. You might be surprised what you find.
