No, why he wants to give you money all of a sudden and why he wants you to change your last name.

ok, your dad kinda sounds like mine, so I get your reason for being apprehensive. Why does he want to send you money? And why does he need you to change your last name? He can write a check out to you, without your last name being the same, so yeah it sounds kinda suspicious.

Well, I think you’re right to be wary. Maybe you shouldn’t do anything until you have the chance to talk to him?

Hi Some Dude, Maybe he did things in that past that he regrets and wants to make up for them. I believe it is never too late. You are alive and so his he. He may be in jail but he is not dead and neither are you. I am a leader at my church and trust me I know some children you age that would love to have that opportunity to talk to their fathers see or have any community with them. You need to really think about it and go with YOUR heart. Trust in the Lord…God bless you…Peace…Azusa, CA

I would be very cautious. If he truly wants to be part of your life now then he should still be able to send you money without you changing your last name.
What is he in prison for?
Ask him why you have to change your name? I would talk to him and see what his motives are? I wouldn’t change my name.

Most likely its because he realizes that you are the only one who will carry on the family name. He’s probably just offering you the money to get what he wants.

i want to say that he just wants to feel more connected to you and make up for the past and whatnot, but i feel like he has got to have an alterior motive for this. my advice? look into it some more, find out why he wants you to change your name, why he is offering money now, and where the money is comming from.

If it’s $50 I wouldn’t do it for the money.

If it’s $500 then that much might be of interest to you.

If it’s $5,000 then h*e*l*l I’ll change my name to his.

What difference does it make? It’s probably because you’ll inherit some stuff but only if you have his last name. Maybe he’s dying and wants to make peace. Sure he hasn’t been there, but he’s trying. Let him. There’s nothing suspicious about this whole thing. What’s gonna happen if you change your name? What could be a motive behind that?

Why would you change your last name for money? You can make the money

I think the guy just wants to change his name and he gives a 50 bucks
I think it says something about the guy.
I’m not sure what it doesn’t sound right to me.
But if he gives you $5,000 then that means he’s really serious and really wants to do this. If he’s rich $5,000 isn’t much to him. But to this young lad
5000 can give him a good start in life.

Rather it’s $10 or $1000, it says something about him anyway. Just ask him why all of a sudden is he coming through. It’s ok to be curious. But I don’t think it’s nothing that major. What does your mom say, if she’s still here with us? What does she have to say?

I would try to connect with him. Find out why the sudden interest. I would not change my name. What a kick in the teeth for your mother who HAS been there for life. There is nothing wrong with talking to him. But, YOU call the shots. If he wants to give you money, there has to be something behind it. Especially if he has done nothing to help out before. You can be forgiving, just be cautious.

My dad wants to send me money

But, he said I have to change my last name to (his last name)first. I have my mom last name currently.

Should I? there has to be a reason why suddenly he wants to send me money, his side of the family is wealthy and it will be really useful to me

Still I’m not sure about this, he never paid child support, hardly ever gave me money, and never held interest in my life, why now?
